VOIP - how, which,

Hi there,

I have decided to give VOIP a go. I know a few people who have MSN messenger and would like to speak to them using my wifi at home.

I am not really interested in using the service to land lines as my company pays my mobile bill and they worry me as to what I am paying for!!! but I would like to use free calls and let people know my account name or number so if they have VOIP on their computer or phone, they can call me for nothing.

I have heard of Gizmo, Truphone, IM+ for skype, Fring etc. etc. but am confused as to which one is best for me.

Can anyone help me?????

only you know which one is the best for you....

go try them, it doesnt cost you to get the apps...

Well I tried some of them and am just as confused and really want help with this!

Firstly I installed Fring which installed very easily, although it doesn't integrate with the contacts or messaging applications.

I could IM my contacts (although I couldn't figure out how to use emoticons) and then tried to call an MSN contact (Windows Live to be exact). The phone rang at both ends but when they answered, it still rang at my end so I couldn't get through to them.

Next I tried Gizmo project for Nokia, this integrated tightly into contacts although it was confused with having Windows Messenger installed at the same time.

With this one, no matter how many times I read the documentation or the entries on their forum, I couldn't understand how to IM or call MSN contacts.

So, please help me understand this!

My goal is to IM and talk to Windows Live or MSN contacts for free (from work or home WiFi). IM them when I am out and about and have them call me for free when I am in.

If it has the possibility to talk to Skype users then thats a bonus but not essential.

So, please help me, I would have thought this a simple requirement given the N95s capability but I am really struggling!!!!!!

Regard,

Mike
