does any1 know why when i download imagies from the net my nokia n95 changes the size of the image and makes it smaller ie from 43kb into 4kb. Can any1 tell how 2 fix it so the image is at its origanal size?

Thanks

There are 3 extra files created by N95 for every photo in the gallery. One file is for your contact thumbnail, one for gallery thumbnail and 1 for full gallery view. They are all there in order for more efficient viewing of photos in gallery mode. Perhaps you were looking at the thumbnail photo that may explain the small file size.

I hope that helps.

na there is still no joy with that m8. I have no idea what is wrong with it it used 2 b able 2 save in normal size and now its all small

Perhaps you can backup your content, and do a hard reset to default factory setting.

That might work.

Is that a N95 or 8GB?

I'm just curious, did you view your photos from the gallery, or via a 3rd party application like Y-browser etc?

from the gallary also the file manager. The last time i did a hard reset on my nokia n80 it totally crashed 2 days l8er so am not really wantin 2 do it just yet as ivd only had this a couple of months lol

I see. Try this:-

Enter camera mode

Goto Options>Settings
Now check the Image quality of the photo. Do you have "Print 5M - Large" selected?

long shot... when you download pictures your not just getting the thumbnail for it are you? you may need to click that thumbnail to see the fullsize picture.

nope no joy with the camra setings and its when i open the thumbnail its small and very poor quality as i said 1s ive downloaded say a 40kb pic my phone saves it as say 5kb almost as if it is just downloadin the full image just the thumb now.

mms picture size small medium and large settings wouldnt have an effect on it would it?

i`ll have a look around on mine tomorrow and see if i can find anything

Could you give us more detail as to what you are doing, preferably step by step?
Also when you say you download images from the net, are these pictures that are online and you downlaoded on the pc and sent to your phone...or have you gone to a website on the phone and saved an image on the handset?

What internet browser are you using on the phone/pc, what file browser are you using on the phone, how are you accessing the images on the phone etc.

If you have any samples of images from the site you are using (as long as its clean 😉) or a link to the site will help in troubleshooting.

Hopefully we can get you a solution 😊

im not using pc suite m8 am just downloading str8 from the web (google images)2 my handset. Google tells ya that its 100kb image and my hand set will just download the image as a 5kb pic(like a thumb nail) this isnt just a problem on google its from my yahoo email.

Ahh cool that gives us something to work from 😊

Are you using a wifi connection to get on the net from your phone or are you using a 3g/hsdpa connection to your mobile network?

If using a mobile connection rather than wifi, maybe the images/data are going through the network's gateway which reduces the size of everything. To confirm, try connecting over wifi and see if the images are as big as they should be. If this doesn't work, we need to dig abit more.

Also are you using Opera Mobile/Opera Mini to browse the Internet on your phone or the standard N95 browser?

im using the standard n95 browser m8 and im using a 3g connection. It was workin fine a few days ago was normal size now all of a sudden it shinks

You are searching google images for pictures, you click the image you want, then google opens the page with a thumbnail at the top that says the resolution, file size and what not, beneath that is the actual page the image was found on. Google uses frames to do this, so you would have to scroll down and highlight the full sized image before saving it, it's not clear that this is what you are doing though?

Certainly this type of thing doesn't just happen, either your network provider changed their system, something was changed on your phone, or your technique is now different from when it last worked.

First step would be to call up your service provider, battle your way through the support weenies, find someone with a clue and find out if it was them. There is no easy way for the service provider to resize images on the fly though, so it's more likely that something changed at your end.

Yes you are right. I wasn't thinking straight what I wrote that.

I had typed a reply out on my phone only to press the end call button by mistake, jump to the standby screen and lose my reply when opera closed :/ Oh well, second try lol.

As dchky says, when you search for an image in google images and you click on one of the results, the page/site containing the image loads up with a google images frame at the top. What do you do from here to save the image?

Using the N95 browser the only way I can save an image is to click on the "See full size image", the image loads up and I can save it from the menu. I couldn't get the Save Images option to show.

Do you have access to a wifi connection to the Internet that you can try? If not, what network are you on, so that someone on the same network and data tariff can see if they are experiencing the same problem.

I know vodafone's gateway will (or at least used to) resize images. I used to get this unless I clicked the link provided to reload the page without compressed images.

I tried going to google images, running a search, selecting an image, clicking on the See full size image link in the frame at the top. The image was then downloaded and displayed in a window on its own from where I saved it. The image was shown as being 86kb in google images and it showed as 86kb in the gallery also. I carried out a few search and saves over both my home network and over a hsdpa connection on Three. The images were saved the same size as they were claimed to have been on google images results.

A quick test, if you have an unlimited data tariff or bandwidth to spare 😊
If you go to the link below on your phone and save it, does it show as being 29kb in size or significantly smaller?
http://www.sumitbahl.com/images/google_logo.jpg

Also, this one should be about 68kb:

If these come out reduced in size, your network is shrinking your images before they get to you. If not, who knows whats going on lol 😊

Let us know how you get on.

the 69kb was 11kb and the 29kb was 5kb. Im savin everything excatly the same as i used 2. This isnt just a google image problem it happens when i download from my yahoo mail inbox.

If those two images I linked to are being reduced that would point to either T-Mobile compressing the images before they get to your phone or your phone is doing something funny.

Anyone else on T-Mobile able to confirm or deny if they compress images?

[edit] after a bit of a search, I found out that other people are finding their images compressed on T-Mobile and some are saying there is another access point that won't compress images. See if the last post here helps or see if you have any other connections/APNs already configured on the phone that you can use to connect to the net.
