please help with n95 8gb music player problem

16 replies · 8,782 views · Started 29 December 2007

ive loaded music to my n95 and it shows up in file manager but it dosent show up in the media player and i have refreshed it a thousand times. please any one help me

Probably the main question is can the phone actually play the media via the file manager?

If no, then the built in player is probably not going to be able to play it unless you have the appropriate codec installed. What type of files are you trying to play?

Hmmm, weird, I can't think of anything other than maybe the music files being in a location that the player doesn't search.

Hi
I'm new, so please bear with me:

I have exactly the same problem.
I'd heard so much great stuff about this gadget... but what a mess.

I've placed around 300 MP3 files in the Mass Memory 'Music' folder. There is 'zero' showing in the Music Player 'Music folder... I've refreshed it many times but to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

Did U guys put the maps in the folder Sounds/Digital????

And why not use Pc suite (music option?)..
There U can put maps on your PC 2 put in your device...
It also will convert it 2 smaller size songs and keeps the quality

Strider, thats really not going to endear you to these forums. Judging by your posts, you didnt try too hard to fix your problem.

Either way, if you prefer an SE phone thats well and good. But simply shouting at people to get a different phone when its an N95 forum isnt a good idea.

They are very different phones, the N95 is packed with a lot more things in.

You dont see me on iphone forums giving it stick.

i've always had SE phones but since having the N95 8gb i'd never go back, nokia are way ahead of any 1 else.
i always use WMP or music manager and never get this problem.
if you used file manager delete them and try a different option
just delete them fullstop and try again.

on the mass memory i have two folders for sound files i have MUSIC
and SOUND CLIPS. i have my songs in MUSIC if it helps at all
i just checked and my songs show up no matter what folder i have my music in

When you are on top of the music player (don't start to navigate into music or podcasts), you have the refresh option available. Use it, it can be very long if you copied many music files (I had over 4500 into the MUSIC folder) to build the catalog, but it worked for me.

Perhaps the music library files are corrupted. Connect the N95 to a PC via USB cable and choose the Data Transfer mode. On the PC navigate to the phone's memory card and delete all of the directories under Private. (NOTE: there are threads on this forum that say you only need to delete certain dirs, but I usually just kill them all.) Reboot your phone and try Refresh again.

Sorry to bump this but I happen to have the same problem.

Just installed the newest firmware ( 20.0.016 ) and after putting my all my mp3s to the Music folder, I can't see them on my playlist and when pressing "Refresh" nothing happens.. I even tried that "Remove files under Private folder" thingy but it didn't work, just lost most of my software (wee!..)

Has anyone found any solutions for this yet?

Not sure if this helps but I just drag and drop mp3s using the vanilla PC Suite. If I d&d the files only then they end up in the correct place (file manager/mass memory/music) but if I drag and drop the container folder then they end up in file manager/mass memory/other.

Dragging and dropping just the files is fine so long as you've got all the tags sorted. Obviously the phone will sort them into artist/album/whatever. I can recommend Mp3 Tag Tools v1.2

After loading music onto your N95 you need to do a Refresh before it will show in the Media Player. To do this:-

Menu > Gallery > Tracks > Options > Refresh

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help, but the problem was that my refresh button wasn't working at all.

I found out from another post that my mp3 player had an old music library or something from my last firmware, so to get a new one I had to do this:

1) Copy the music files you want to wherever you want on the memory card.
2) Connect the phone in "Data transfer" mode to your PC.
3) Delete the two files in "E:\private\101FFC31" (called "mpxv1.mpd" and "pcv5.mpd"😉.
4) Delete the one file in "E:\private\101ffca9" (called "harvesterdb.dat"😉.
5) Disconnect the phone from the PC and run the Music Player on the phone.
6) Wait a while for the app to startup. It will be rebuilding the library......
7) Just to be sure, select "Refresh".

It's almost the same as deleting the whole private folder like 'spice3d suggested, but I don't know why it didn't work but removing these 2 folders did.
