Hi guys - just joined this great site and wanted to pick your brains. Can you tell me your opinions on the best GPS software for the N95 8Gb?
I obviously want to use the standard navigation stuff as well as being able to input co-ordinates - do they all do this?
I'm going to want to use it in Middle East (UAE) as well as UK and sometimes USA - do some applications have better map coverage than others?
Thanks for your help, in advance.😊
Best GPS software for N95 8Gb?
Hi, there isn't really a 'best' option available, just different applications with different levels of support, features, and coverage.
Probably the leaders in turn by turn navigation are TomTom, Route66, and Garmin Mobile XT, these have extensive coverage in the areas you are wanting. (Probably some exceptions exist for parts of the middle east though)
The built in Nokia maps are pretty good but you have to pay an ongoing fee for the voice prompt stuff, navigation, and a few other add on services. Some parts of the world have maps with inaccuracies of up to several hundred meters.
Lots of free options are available too, Google Earth, Mobile GMaps, just do a search for N95 GPS applications and you'll find loads of them, most are java based though.
i have tried garmin , route66 and tomtom but feel route66 wins hands down! I would be lost (no pun intended) without that software

Please tell me what is better about Route66 than TomTom?? Puting aside the fact that TT doesn't support built-in GPS yet. (this is the only reason why I'm using R66)
R66 maps are crap, the routes it creates sometimes TWICE longer than TT or Google Maps (!!), you can't browse the map, amount of custom POI's to add dramatically lower than TT or Garmin and you can't even renavigate when there's a roadblock/traffic jam in front of you because this piece of c... keeps telling you to go back to the blocked/longer route!
I can recommend Navigon MobileNavigator6 which I'm using now since about 6 months. Works great.
