RealPlayer not really compatible with most? all? Real video formats?

I've made some serious RealVideo playback compaibility tests on my v20 N95. RealPlayer has turned out NOT to support any of the (several) video clips I've thrown it at.

Did I make some mistake, or is it really this incompatible with pure RealVideo formats? What formats do you know it surely is able to play back?

See my original article with the links to my test videos at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2398&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 if interested.

Your link doesn't work for me. Keep in mind there are huge numbers of different video and audio formats available, many of the generic names are containers that can be filled with any weird combination of streams.

The current generation of encoders make this mess rather trivial to accomplish. Few have useful documentation on the best formats or capabilities of the playback platform, though the platforms themselves (eg. the N95) also lack any built in application that shows which formats are currently supported by which applications. Given the data caging, it's probably not easily possible to do this either.

There might have been a temporary outage. Now it's working again.

Yup, this is wht I've run the tests with several RM(VB) formats available at Mplayer's test media database. None of them worked; this is why I'm interested in whether anyone has made RealPlayer play a real RealVideo file (not just a H.264 Baseline / MP4 one).

Ahhh, I'm with you now 😊 Sorry, no further input in this post, only distant memories of a few forum entries in the past that have questioned why streaming RM formats haven't worked.

Were they audio or video? Audio streaming should work - but over RTSP only. (the client, unfortunately, doesn't support HTTP - see http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/68414/ if interested for my latest, related Bible)
