Navigon MobileNavigator 6 on N95 8GB

Hi all, I'm new here :hello:

I'm thinking of buying the Navigon MobileNavigator 6 for my Nokia N95 8GB.

Before I do I wanted to make sure it is compatible because it says on the website that:

Please note, that you require a 512 MB memory card to install the MN 6.

I dont think the NokiaN95 has a card slot does it cos its all internal!

Does this mean I can't install it?

Navigon works on the N95, the memory requirement is for the turn by turn maps, but these can be stored on the 8gb drive.

Hiya, thanks for the advice - I went ahead and bought it.

I dont see any sign of the Lane Assistant or Speed camera system though?

I tried loading the Navigon Fresh but every time I try and connect I get the message

"No MN Contents were found on this card. Please insert a card with MN software!"

The weird thing is that it recognises the Mass storage drive where it is located but it just can't find it?

Any advice would be really appreciated

Sadly they dont have either. I did actually email them about the lane assistant, and they told me it wasnt on the sybian version, dispite it showing on the symbian page!

There is no safety camera either. Its a shame I didnt see this thread before you bought it.

Sorry :frown:

Thats a bit pooey!

Thats the only reason I went with these guys in the end...do you think I'll be eligible for a refund based on those grounds?

They will probably say no, but you can point out the website makes it look like you get the lane assistant. You could say you wouldnt have bought it if you knew it didnt have that.

Thanks - it is true though - I wouldn't have bought it if I'd have known it didnt have that - its just the same as Nokia Maps without those two features!

they refused to give me my money back 😞

My house doesnt even exist on their maps 😞 ( i live on a remote farm)

My house appears on the Tele Atlas maps but not their Navtec ones :'(

A bit disappointed but I guess I paid 70 pounds for europe maps and the fact the voice says the road name.

Incidentally, do you know if there are any map editors that I can use to "edit" my house into it?? Lol I know its a long shot but thought it's worth a try.

Also, does the Navigo fresh work for you bart?

Ive no idea what fresh is if Im being honest. Assuming its something they do, Im going to have a look at their site.

However, Im guessing that whatever it is, its not for symbian. Ive been in contact with them a few times in the past, and as soon as you mention the magic word 'symbian', they really lose interest.

Id haggle them about getting your money back. Perhaps you could threaten them with false advertising. Afterall, it does show the lane assistant on the actual symbian page.

As for map editors, Im afriad not. Off to have a look for that fresh thing now.

Edit: the compatibility doesnt look hopeful, everything but symbian. Downloading it now.

I'm going to try and get my money back - i'm very disappointed. It is false advertising and not offering a money back guarantee due to substandard quality of goods is probably breaching sale of goods act too...

Please can you let me know the outcome of fresh - i have misplaced my nokia data cable so cant test it myself tonight :'(

Not having a great day today - my in car holder thing has bust too :'(

Nope, tried all sorts. Took the memory card out and plugged it in my card reader, tried my phone in mass storage mode (with memory card in, obviously). tried it in pc suite mode as a final tester, but all bring up the same errors from the navigon fresh software:

A removable disk could not be found.

or, with the disk in the card reader or the phone in mass storage mode:

No MN contents were found on this card. Please insert a card with MN software!

So it seems that I was right in that they simply dont cater for the symbian version, which is the case for many companies.

I would rant at them to give your money back. Let us know if you get anywhere.

Thanks for your help Bart - you got everything I did with the Fresh thing.

The rant has begun - I'll let you know how I get on with it. Its a bit crap really- I do consider myself quite the keen eye when it comes to buying stuff online and if I have fallen into this error then I can't be the only one - the features I want are the ones that dont come with it!

Ive emailed them and sent them a letter so will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again

No problem, its encouraged me to look into some problems with my satnav. I currently rely on 2 different ones simply to get over the shortfalls of each other.

Good luck.

which ones do you use? Nokia Maps and Navigon? If so I'm the same! hehe

I like the way Nokia Maps works cos its integrated and I like the way navigon says the road names shame nokia maps cant do that, surely it wouldnt be a big problem to implement this on nokia maps?

Navigon and route66, as route66 comes with my phone (I use a 6110, not a N95).

Navigon has good routing and postcodes, with decent instructions, and route66 has a very nice interface, but the routes constantly let me down. It also has an issue with giving instructions to turn/bear left or right when theres just a corner, not an actual turning.

It does it quite often too.

Everyone is waiting for tomtom to use the internal GPS, but its taking so long it might not even be coming.

If I get confirmation of tomtom not planning to support Symbian GPS, then I'll switch over to a windows mobile device at some point. The 6110 is a brilliant phone hardwarewise, but not a single one of the satnav packages available is anything like tomtom.

cool - i looked at route66 but decided against it for some reason :P cant remember now!

Nokia Maps is worth a look. You can download it for the 6110 and get a 3 day free trial for the navigation - i think you might like it - it uses TeleAtlas which has very good maps.

If I'd have known about Navigons lack of features I would have bought a better license for nokia maps.

(Incidentally I heard back from one of my emails... this is what they said:

we are sorry that you are unsatisfied.

The features mentioned by you don't apply for the MN|6 symbian version but for the PDA version. You find the description for your software under the following link:

http://www.navigon.com/site/uk/en/products/mobile_navigation/cellphone/symbianphone/features

Check out that url. It even says it has Lane Assistant on there!! That's blatant false advertising surely?!? :icon13:

Yep, thats the one I was refferring to, which IMO is blatent false advertising, like you say.

Its perhaps worth emailling them this link, and saying that you wouldnt have bought it otherwise (which is true), and that you were sold something which was blatently misadvertised. Thus you should be entitled to a refund under the trade descriptions act.

Persist at it, they are being grossly unfair, and they should definatly not have that lane assistant on that page.

As for nokia maps, tried it, didnt like it that much.

Tried Garmin, various issues with that.

Oddly, Ive not often had a problem with maps, its more the softwares limitations/route calculating that always pushes me towards tomtom.

hehe it soudns as though you have been around the houses with all the software!

did you settle with navigon in the end?

I've made a screen grab of that URL and told them about it so am awaiting a reply.. ive also posted a letter to them.

Just in case they try anything sneaky with that website (ie removing the lane assistant) in the mean time, I took a screen grab of the page which can be used if necessary....

Yeah, Ive tried all of the main satnav packages.

Settled with navigon because although its sparse on options (like, naff all), I found it did the best job of simply navigating.

Another thing you might like to mention to them, is where is the friend finder in the symbian version, I cant see it.

Hi there,

BUT, does it work now on the N95 8GB or not? I once read there were problems because of the inbuilt storage... I would be interested but do not know wether it works or not.

Thanks and regards,
PM

yeah - I dont really know what friendfinder is but perhaps its the bit where you go to "My Destinations" -> "Contacts"? Not sure though - I have no friends so dont need that option anyway. lol jk 😎

Hey PM - it does work with the N95 8GB - it installed fine despite the inbuiltness of the memory.

Ah ok - yeah it is there when you are navigating.. if you press the menu while you are navigating it is thebottom left option - button 7...

incidentally, i have heard back from Navigon and they say Re the lane assistant:

"The lane assistant only appears at complicatet motorway junctions."

Luckily I am making a long jounrey today down the M1 so we will see!

.Hey PM - it does work with the N95 8GB - it installed fine despite the inbuiltness of the memory.

Errr, thats not what they told me when I asked about it!

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email. The lane assist is not available in your version.

Is what they told me in an email I have here.

Looks to me like they are trying to get out of giving you a refund.

Ah, that menu was the only one I couldnt access (cant get a signal inside).

It does doesn't it. I will test it on my motorway journey tonight because I go through some hairy junctions. If nothing pops up Ill be contacting my credit cart company because they arent playing ball.

If something does pop up then Ill eat my hat and stay quite cos that is actually quite useful if it works.

Yep, but I must say that in all my travels Ive never seen the lane assistant come up. If its only at 'complicated' junctions, then they are so rare as for it to be pointless.

Before you contact the credit card company Id contact them once more (after you have done your journey) and ask them to either prove there is a lane assistant on the symbian version, or refund you. Or you will be going down the credit card refund route.

Thanks a lot 😊

Hi, am I correct in assuming that Navigon Navigator makes use of the N95 & 6110 Navigator built in GPS then?

valerebel
😊

Yes, however it does not have the option for speed cameras (or any other POI other than its own, which isnt a great selection), and is rather basic in what options it has.

Although it does seem to give the best routes out of the available satnav solutions for symbian inbuilt GPS phones.

Haha - I cant beleive it but they have actually removed the "Lane Assistant" bit from that link!!!

Can you beleive the cheek?!

I will be contacting my credit card company today about this.
