The BBC's new Technology Blog has made some rather tounge in cheek predictions for 2008 . On the smartphone front, and I quote: Nokia brings out its latest smartphone, the N99. As well as featuring music, live television, a manicure set and a device for getting stones out of horse’s shoes, it offers an ice-cream cornet with a chocolate flake. “And, unlike, the new 3g iPhone,” a spokesman explains, “it is 4g, making the mobile internet work properly for the first time.”

I once met a very nice German girl who used the back of her Nokia as a bottle opener. I can't remember the phone model but it was an old one.
I thought that this was a fantastic idea even though it made me laugh. I really don't see why phones should be thought of as just comms devices.
I already see people using them as torches e.g. when the power was off at Putney Railway Station the other day I saw people using their phones to see their way up the stairs.
The advantage of having gadgets on your phone is that you always carry it whereas you probably leave your torch and bottle opener at home all the time.
