Application to schedule and send sms codes to heat control in vacation home

Happy new year all!

I have just bought a vacation home and installed a heat control and alarm unit to remotely control the heating. It has an IR and fire alarm included also

It sends different "commands" using sms text messages, and will also respond with an sms to confirm execution of the different coded sms commands.
Problem is that it cannot be controlled in advance - say I would like to set the heating on the next thursday at 16:00, and to avoid forgetting that I would like to write the sms right now.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a symbian software to send scheduled sms messages from? ...and possibly also code and decode the receipt sms from the unit? It has to be compatible with my N95 (1ed)

Code: I choose TURN LIVINGROOM ON, and the application sends a message like this: !12345678!RNP02#00

Decode: the unit responds by sending RNP06 ON!YYYY and the message I can read could be something like: LIVINGROOM ON CONFIRMED

Sorry for my english - sincerly hope you understand what I intend to say :|

How do you mean you get coded and decoded messages? Is there some sort of program running on your phone that does this, or is there a seperate unit that does the SMS's?

yes, it always amazes me that people don't actually try searching for applications that they want. Google is a great source of information.

Another is SMS Scheduler from migital, which has a (fully functional) trial period to let you see if it meets your needs.

Thanks for your replies.

Just to have it said - I did in fact google for an app and found some apps too.

What I was asking was basically:
- a recommendation
- an app that supports code/ decode from normal language to the units coding system and vica versa (translation if you want) - if such an app exists. Java?
Does anyone know of such an app?

Thanks in advance...

There is no such an app there will not be unless someone develops it just to suit the requirements of this sepcific heat control system.

I see your point, but if I can fill in a table myselves with the translations (ie. codes in one colomn and "words" to translate to in another)

Maybe this opens a possibility to use a application intended for let me say "general use". The problem would probably be to find such an app linkable to an app with sms functionality....:stupido3:

Hi Jorang, how about sending EMAILS from your N95 using a service such as this?

http://www.fastsms.co.uk/email2sms/index.html

It sends a text message based on the contents of the email that you send.

Once you have worked out the format of each command you want your heating system to perform you can send the email, then just forward it in future without having to remember the specific command again. Just create a contact called something like "Heating system" with the relevant email address set up.

Gmail will let you create descriptive tags for each email command, for even easier use. For example, create a tag called "Living Room On" and add just the one email that turns your living room heating on to this tag. And so on......

Finally, you could create filters under Gmail that check for the success & failure replies that you receive, and tag them appropriately. Have tags such as "Successful Heating Commands" and "Unsuccessful Heating Commands".

Just some thoughts!

hi, check with your mobile phone operator, i use Telefonica (in Spain) and they have a syntax for sending deferred SMS messages. have you tried calling your operator to see if they have this service? i can't hoenstly remember the syntax, but it was something like starting the text message with the date/time and then the message...

worth a try

Thanks for the answers and suggestions.

It turns out the tip from Gavin was the one which brought me nearer an OK solution. My service provider has a free Outlook plugin which can handle templates and scheduled sending. When I send messages I charge my mobile plan for the sendt sms messages as usual at the usual rate.

No I can just name the templates with some understanding phrases and write the programming codes in the body of the template. I can also choose whether I want the response to my mobile or to my email account. Nice!

Have a nice day all! 😊
