Image viewing - per folder?

Is it me, or is the image viewer majorly flawed in the way it works? 8gb... thats a lot of photos, and not being able to browse them per folder is a total nightmare. I did try RescoViewer as that seemed the most well known, but its total rubbish. And when programs sometimes want to select a photo to add to it etc (like fscaller), it lists EVERY photo, and when photos are taken with te camera with a big long number, whats the point in the search box?

I know I can go through them in file manager, but you cant easily go to the next photo (or see mini preview).

Also, why does the cursor for the Play, Email, Upload icons etc in the image viewer sit on random locations, I generally assume it is (and I think it SHOULD be) on Play by default, but I end up pressing email instead. I know there are the buttons on the left, but I think this is a silly pointless feature of the phone really.

Meh, this is turning into a list of my gripes. Is the GPS really this bad? I have heard it takes forever to fix, but I swear I can only get like 5 satellites at most ever (when my bluetooth unit can get 8+ in seconds). And even with 5, it can never get a fix off them. I know my bluetooth sometimes waits for 4 before a fix, but why wont the N95 fix from 5? :/
I was hoping to beable to use this without my bluetooth for tracking etc bluetooth unit can get a fix in the depths of my bag etc, the nokia cant do it sitting in my hand.

Other problem I have is the music player is rubbish, and how can you get it to manually scan for new music? (Also would be nice if I could choose where to scan, so I can use symsmb 😛).

Sounds like someone hasn't read any help manuals 😊 Ever.

Resco does exactly what you want, you just have to set it up to display folders. It is anything but rubbish, far better and much faster than the built in gallery thing. It also has many shortcuts for navigating the content. You can also adjust the size of the thumbnails.

Naming conventions you can blame nokia for.

FSCaller, write to the developer of that application and ask them to include a better file manager, or get some hooks into the gallery so that you can quickly assign whatever you want to the application. Good luck with that, symbian have mostly closed the door on logical things like this with their caged directories.

Don't whine about the GPS, learn how to use it, it is just as good as any other, switch on A-GPS and your troubles will vanish. Your bluetooth GPS uses a lot of hackery and various low power modes to give you a quick fix. After about 4 hours of inactivity the ephemeris becomes outdated and has to be refreshed, the minimum theoretical time to get a fix from cold start is about 45 seconds in ideal conditions. Without almanac info the time to first fix can take up to 30 minutes.

Music Player -> Options -> Refresh.

Yea I can admit the resco part, I was away when I tried it, will be more patient next time. 😛

Sorry I mean, when you are in the image viewer app, and you have an image full screen and you are scrolling through them... when you come to a video in the list, first thing I want to do is press the select button to play it. (I don't use the main play/stop/prev/next buttons when you slide the slide down, as I think they are rubbish and makes the phone a little arkward to hold whilst pressing. And its not natural to use them anyway as the prev/next button doesnt go to the next image)
If you press the select button the icons on screen come out (very slowly sometimes...), and the default isnt always over the play icon.

That multimedia menu button thing I know what you mean, I wasnt talking about that, I find it rubbish as its too slow. On the N70 you can change what app that button goes to, i wouldnt mind using it for some other one but I cannot find the option to change it (if it exists?)

Learn how exaclty? There isn't much else you can do whilst you are waiting for a fix...
I have AGPS on, its on by default, might help a bit in built up areas (although it didnt in Milan last week), when you are remote (where I reside most hte time) its not that helpful. I thought that maybe that was causing issues with it so turned it off to start with, but nothing.

Ah thanks for the refresh, I checked all the options menu except for the very first one. Which folders does it search? (Or everything, including new SMB drives?) Would imagine it would take forever to refresh 100gb over wifi :/ lol

I ~think~ you mean the multimedia button on the front of the phone, if you want it to jump to the music player then hold it down for a few seconds. You can customize the items in the list as well. I don't much use it myself since I have replacement apps for most everything built in, I can't really give any advice here.

Yeah I too can vouch for Resco. I use it 90% of the time. The inbuilt viewer doesn't get much of a looking.
