On my n95 8gb how do i know when I am in a HSDPA?
HSDPA coverage, how do i Know?
I think it will show 3.5G under the signal meter.
it will only show 3.5G when you are actively transferring data. so load up a webpage and you will see if you are in HSDPA.
sure i have seen 3.5G on vodafone screens in the past, you dont have to be transferring data?

3G when you have the 3G connection, 3.5G when you have a 3.5G data download underway!

GSM- 9.6k
GPRS- 43k?
3G?
HSDPA?
any other faster ones?

3G is about 386kbps with avg HSPDA running at 1.8mbps. There is no real defined maximum yet with 3 and others looking at bumping the speed first to about 6meg right up to 10meg over the next few years.

Same for me on O2. It only shows 3.5G when I'm actively using the connection. At rest, it just shows 3G.
I have a friend who has an XDA on Voda and I'm sure it shows 3.5G all the time, rather than only when the connection is in use. So you may be right about Voda.
I'm on Voda, and it only shows 3.5G during an active data connection. Displays 3G at other times (or where I live, just displays the GSM icon :frown: )

Hi Liam 548,
When you have HSDPA coverage on your phone the symbol for 3G which is normally a letter G with the 3 lines attached to the back of it will also have a + symbol either next to it or within it. This tells you that you have HSDPA coverage where you are. Obviously you have to have a HSDPA compatible phone and have your phone network selected for 3G.
For more info about where you can get HSPDA, we can check our detailed coverage map for you by postcode and let you know. The fastest way to check this out would be to call us on 191 from your Vodafone and ask us to check your HSDPA data coverage.
At the moment, HSDPA is pretty new and is only available at airports and selected post codes throughout the UK until it's rolled out to more areas.
Hope this helps!

Looks like 3G wont be with me for a long time. I clicked the '6 months' prediction on the Vodafone coverage map, and the only thing which changed was a small area was going to get less coverage of the standard signal.

Mmmmmm!
HSDPA is certainly not new, the service and phones have been around for nearly two years.
Vodafone are slow to enable their network as they have concentrated on maximising their profits from 'Eye Candy' phones and early upgrades pushed by fashion trends and dictates.
If they were serious they would be at the forefront and be offering 4G by now (something that you will see on the other networks before Vodafone).
They are not a cutting edge communications company, more a marketing excercise. This is a shame because we lag behind other countries such as Japan in this regard and with the revenue generated by companies such as Vodafone we could and should lead the world.
I have serious concerns about my network provider (T-mobile), but full marks to them for having extensively equiped their network and for offering at least something close to a sensible data package!
