I think a smarter detection algorithm must be able to do the trick: The silent profile should not be triggered on a small change in position. Only when you make either a large movement (putting the phone from your pocket on the face down on the table) or with an close to 180' flip (putting the phone from face up to face down on the table). When the phone is in your pocket, If it only moves slowly to an almost face down position, and on top it keeps moving it is in your pocket. On a table it is much more stable. This difference should be detectable, no?
I hope the software improves at this point, because I also have it switching often to silent in my pocket.
