Even with every battery draining application running (excluding the camera), the phone is going to last longer than an hour. If your friends task manager of choice shows nothing unusual, then the likely culprit is a dead battery. I'd say the timing was just coincidental with the firmware upgrade.
On the nokia development site there is a battery monitor you can download and install - probably easiest to just search for it in this forum. That will tell you right off if your phone is pulling an unusual amount of current.
I agree, I had a dead battery (was charging it with a desktop charger and those things have no cutout when full so tend to murder batteries!)
The behaviour you describe is very similar to what I saw, full battery for an hour or so then a sudden and complete drop to nothing in the space of maybe 45 minutes. The battery would last, at most, 3 hours without any power hungry activity at all. If you have a Nokia Service Center nearby they will do a free battery check which will tell you if your battery is dead or not and they did mine while I waited (only takes 5 minutes).

which battery were you refering to that would last for 3 hours at most?.....the faulty battery or the normal n95-1 battery??
The faulty one!
The battery I have now will last all day with a moderate amount of music playback, calls, web browsing over 3G and camera use.

i assume that the battery you have now is an original BL-5F(950 mah) right?
thanks for clearing things here😊
Yeah, I only use Nokia batteries cos I have heard nothing good and lots of bad things about non-genuine ones.
@nudda: Did your friend use a desktop charger cos mine killed 2 batteries before I realised! They are fine if they charge the phone cos it has a shutoff circuit. It's those ones that charge the second battery out of the phone that kill them.
Thanks guys!
I think hes over exaggerating it by saying 1 hour max but yes i think i also that its a dead battery. Does anyone know where I can get the nokia battery level monitor from ?
He uses the normal portable charger
thanks again

from : http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/resources/development_process/power_management/ for the info page
or
Nokia Energy Profiler for the zip from Nokia site direct.

I know you are trying to make a joke, but either way you are exaggerating a non-issue. I have an N95-1, the only time I've ever had it drain in anything approaching 3 hours is when I've been driving with the GPS, GPRS, and WiFi running continuously, back light on full time, and listening to music.
Using it as a normal telephone it will last for at least 2 days before needing a charge, including the odd call and text here and there.
If you want your N95 to run all day, there are tons of low cost options from solar through to additional batteries.
I got my first mobile in 1992, in all that time I've never had a phone last more than a couple of days, generally much less when you actually use it. I don't think the N95 is at all any different, far better if you consider the evolution of technology.

I had no intention of making a joke at all.....i just needed to know which battery 3shirts was refering to that`s all!!.
Many apologies, that'll teach me for jumping to conclusions. Sorry Ron.
