N95 8GB reselling value question?

5 replies · 2,661 views · Started 07 January 2008

Hello all,

I wonder if the N95 8GB`s price would drop after 16 GB micro SDHC cards become available?.......according to my very humble observations, the n95-1(classic) price has been more stable than the 8gb model during the past couple of months!

what do you guys think?,i am relatively new to the n95 world and am still undecided to get the 8gb model mainly because of having doubts about the low pixel density screen, the battery performance and......it`s reselling value(not having a card slot).

regards,
Ron.

This is what we've always said about the decision to go with a hard drive. It does limit the upgradability and future value of the device. Personally, I wouldn't swap my N95 for an 8gb.

As for your question, I wouldn't think 16Gb cards will cause a great change in the speed of depreciation but, like any other technology, the value of an N95 8gb will be declining constantly so if you do want to sell it, sooner would be better than later. For me it would be a no brainer as you will easily make enough money to buy a used N95 classic and probably enough change to get an 8gb card.
In fact, wasn't someone on here asking about selling their N95 classic? Maybe PM them

well,i`ve heard that the 8gb memory in the n95-2 is not hard drive/microdrive but its an internal flash memory.

anyway,i agree with you in almost every fact you mentioned here and i know i can afford a brand new n95 classic but the only reasons i am asking about the 8gb model is it`s huge screen, plenty of ram and bigger battery.....coz i dont wanna miss such advantages but on the other hand i tend to keep my phone for a year or may be more and i have a strong feeling that reselling the 8gb model after a year from now will make a 50% (if not more) price loss😞

I just need to make sure that the n95 classic battery will last for a day and that the 30 mb of free ram on v20 will be enough for proper/real multitasking😊

thanks again.

You only have to read some of the threads that came about just after the release of V20 for that. I, and many others, have actively tried to cause a low RAM situation but outside of busy web pages it just doesn't happen anymore. I am able to run all my background apps (rotateme, skyeQuiKey, Handy TaskMan, TruPhone and now FlipSilent) as well as browser, camera, radio and Garmin without any of them dropping out!
Basically, Demand Paging renders the lower RAM issue redundant.

As for battery life: I can get a full working day out of my phone with moderate calls, 3G browsing, camera use and wifi fiarly easily. If I specifically turn things off to save power, I can go a couple of days.

If I can't run Garmin Mobile XT (doing turn by turn navigation), the built in audio player, and rotate me at the same time without the thing grinding to a screeching halt, then I suspect everyone else will have a very similar response curve. Sure, you wont often see out of memory errors, but the lack of grunt from the CPU becomes all too evident. You switch the camera and radio on in that mix, applications do start to vanish.

Demand paging doesn't render anything redundant, it's just a neat hack that has its own set of limitations. Pick a few memory intense applications and you are no better off than pre V20 firmware.

I agree with you about battery life though 😊

so can i conclude that the N95 8GB huge 90 mb of free ram performs MUCH better under the same (above mentioned) multitasking conditions?
