Firmware Update Error

Hey guys

I have a N95-8gb on vodafone. It was pretty buggy so decided to change the product code and use the standard firmware.

I did a phone backup using pc suite, before i followed the guide (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/67130/) on changing product code (Changed to euro1 n95-8gb). i then installing the new firmware as instructed using NSU. This worked apparently fine, However i have now done a restore of the backup using PC suite. The phone said it would restart, first time around it did not boot back up. i pressed the power button manually and now get a "Phone startup failed, contact the retailer" message.

Any ideas?

i had to take the simcard out make it even let me type. with the sim out, the phone booted, but weirdly would not idle on the standby screen. it would jump back to menu.

Will try a "deep reset", then replace simcard. if this doesnt work i assume i should try a "full reset" ?

*edit* ok it came back on after the deep reset, its trying to install something now, any ideas?

**edit** Do i now need to return the product code to the original vodafone one?

look for urup's post.

it may help.

wish id seen that before hand lol. looks like exactly the problem i had.

Commically, the bugs appear to still be there. Ive been trying to install very simple applications, like opera mini and amazegps but they keep saying "unable to install". I have certificates to all and online checker off. Any ideas for this one?

So far you've both been awesome and thanks 😃

so reinstall the firmware using the NSU you mean? And then dont do the backup restore :P

Yes, run NSU again, it will give you the option to re-install, and then manually download your apps again.

What I do is save the the .sis app installer files in a seperate folder on my memory card, then it is much easier to re-install them next time I update my firmware:icon14:

done, firmware installed again ok, but the applications still beeping up with unable to install. i have made a folder on the "memory card" (even though its the built in hd its still called this on pc suite) added the .jar and .jad file which came with the download and still no luck.

*noob alert question* Does it matter which of these files i click to install, the jar or jad? There doesnt appear to be a .sis file

I had the exact problem with my n95 as many other people. It never stoped restarting and then it displayed "phone start up failed contact retailer." Im affraid there is no soloution to this problem. You can't even flash it or re-install the firmware because your computer wont recognise the phone when its connected and if it does then the phone wont let you install it. You can try taking it to a phone shop but they'll encounter the same problem as above and may even charge you for doing this. My suggestion is that you do what i did. Return it and get a refund.
