Windows Live Messenger No Longer Free ?

Looks like although WM users were seeing this too, it was just meant for S60 users.

From a Microsoft employee (read at Modaco):

Heres what happened: This week we rolled out a direct-to-consumer billing service for the Windows Live client on Nokia S60 in the UK and Sweden. Although we are considering doing the same at a future time for Windows Mobile, this has not been implemented however, something happened and many of you saw a trial message on Windows Mobile devices. Windows Mobile customers shouldnt have received any notifications of a 30-day trial and we are working as quickly as possible to correct this.

I got it too - so i've quite happily uninstalled it.

+1 on the greedy robbing b'stards flames...

nah, I meant did you get it from Download! on your N95 or did you download it from elsewhere??
Im surprised they are contemplating charging windows mobile devices too... what a joke.

sorry, it was from elsewhere 😊

Ebuddy I've got now, quite nice but you have to select your connection type 3 times before you can actually get in ! It minimises successfully sometimes, and othertimes does a nice silent N95 crash.

Perhaps I'm a little fussy, but WLM seemed a lot more stable !

I have exactly the same issue with Fring on two phones, and have emailed them, but so far no fix.....sort of makes it a bit useless.
I find i can un-minimise it once but after that yes i locks up and then you have to restart phone!

Hi guys !

I have downloaded version 1.1.8161 but no matter what i do it wont login 😞
I get this message everytime "Messenger is not accessible at the moment, pleas try later".
I have a 3 branded N95 8GB that i have Unbranded to the latest software 15.0.015 with a changed product code.
Nothing works, i have tried whirless lan at home and the internet connection i have from 3.
Is the messenger service somehow blocked from 3 or by the IMEI or product code ?
It was not in my downloadfolder in the phone so i had to find in on the web.
What is the latest version number of the client?

Oh, and i live in Sweden by the way.

Any help or tips to make it work is appreciated. 😉

as I remember there are 2 sis files to install.

Yes i know that.
Both of them are installed.

Same S**t = No Go... 😞

Im not on 3 but seem to recall that if you unbrand yoru phone you loose the 3 capabilites for MSN??... not sure if you loose ALL MSN caps... maybe just the preinstalled 3 version??

You are partial right on that.
I can't use 3's own version of MSN, but i dont liked it anyway since it dident support file transfer or voice that are included in Windows Live for Nokia S60.
So im probably missing a setting or so or something is blocking it.
Not sure what could block it though since i can use slick from lonely cat, with filetransfer and all...

What is the version number of your messenger client and what network are you using, vodaphone, 3 or any other ??

30 days on true to their word the trial expired and they want 1.50 a month.

Interestingly, 3 have an offer where skype and msn are included.

While the data is free, I assume you still have to pay 1.50 a month to use msn?

And, if data for MSN is free on that 3 contract, is there anyway you can use another messenger program (slick, fring etc) if they use the same ports, or would 3 somehow be able to detect this?

I am using the same version on O2 UK and I do not get the message. Running on a N82 with no problems. Mine is not the *official* download as it is not available on the N82 yet.

I just bought the n95 8gb. I wanted the win live messenger application on my phone but it is not listed in the download! folder...

I am in the UK on o2.

I managed to get hold of a copy via the internet (Windows Live for Nokia s60) (1.1.8161) but it will only work when i connect through Wi-Fi... If i connect through o2 active it does not connect. Error message:

We were unable to sign you in to Messenger. This may be because your phone is in 'offline Mode' or you do not have a data connection. Please check you access point and network settings and try again.

Since then i have had 2 other error messages, both different, talking about maybe bad reception and all sorts...

I also tried another, earlier version, but got the same issues.

So far o2 customer service do not know why it will not connect through o2 active and nokia will not tell me why it does not appear in the download! section.

The internet works fine on the phone, just does not with this application.

What makes it worse is that i have a o2 business mobile with the o2 xda orbit and that runs the same application (although in windows) through the same o2 web settings. Its almost that o2 have disabled access to o2 personal use customers.

Any ideas please?

Many Thanks

Russ

I'm using version 1.0.6141 , and it is working fine , did you try it ?

Yes i tried that other version. I had exactly the same issue. Works with WI-FI but does not ever connect through o2 active 3g.

Which network are you using it with?
