Hiya,
Is this possible? My mate is boasting that his Windows Mobile phone can use the internet from his PC as an access point on his mobile so he can use the internet on his phone via the PC... is this possible with some software on Symbian S60?
Have had a look on the net and cant see anything obvious...
Thing is I'd love to be able to use my work's internet while at work on my phone for radio and things 😊
Yes, if your PC has WiFi of any kind then you'll be able to share internet - some configuration may be required on the desktop.
I would suggest you make certain you have permission to do this though. If I am any kind of gauge to go by - I fire people who connect unauthorized hardware - then you might get your backside smacked by some overzealous IT weenie.

Harsh! 😮
That's what security keys are for......

You better watch out or you'll be up in court for that. Connecting unauthorised hardware isn't gross misconduct and therefore not grounds for instant dismissal. Sure, give them an official verbal warning, but if you fire them straight away, they could turn round and bite you for unfair dismissal.
Of course I'm probably taking this too seriously as I doubt you meant it in literal terms 😊
soooooooooooooooooooo...........
is it possible or is it not with the n95? :P
i wasnt referring to stealing their wifi ( we do not have wifi ) - i was wondering if there was a way to connect fone to USB connection and somehow pass internet thru there via PC suite or other software, like the "PC passthrough" thing with the E-series...
No, on the N95 it is not possible over USB with the default software layout. There may be 3rd party applications available to make this work.
If you want to spend the money you could buy an access point with 3G card to do this, or like I said previously, a cheap and portable access point.
Not sure what you are after here but eithe way, yes it is possible. Do you want to:
a) Use the internet on your pc by connecting to your phone which is online
b) Use the internet on your phone by connecting it to your PC which is online
Solution:
a) Install Nokia PC Suite as it includes a tool to connect to your phone and use its data connection as a modem (can be done over cable or bluetooth)
b) Turn on Internet Connection Sharing on the ethernet connection and go into the properties for the wireless. Click advanced and change it to Ad-Hoc networks only. Then go out of that and click add. Make up a name (SSID) and set your security (I left mine open to begin with to make sure it works). On the phone, manually create an access point and put in the SSID you chose and whatever security it needs.
To avoid all this hassle, simply by a wireless router/access point/hub and use that, that way you don't have to have your computer on if you ever want to hop on the internet with your phone.
They're relatively inexpensive nowaday's and can usually be found around or under $50 CAD.

True, but I don't think my boss would appreciate me hooking a wireless router up to the company network 😊
I use the ad-hoc method on my work pc becasue we don't have wireless.
Man, I have to apologize, I should really start reading every single word in the post before replying because I totally missed the last line in regards to using it at work.
Again my apologies and use 3shirts method at work.
Good luck.
of course I am the net admin in my company so I could just hook up one if i needed lol.
If your desktop machine has Windows XP+ and
If your desktop machine has a wireless adapter and
If your desktop machine connects using Ethernet and
If you have admin rights to your box then
You can create an ad-hoc WiFi network with your N95 (or any other WiFi enabled device) and your desktop machine and enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on your machine over the WiFi.
