Hello... Got my N95 8GB, finally! Just wondering really, I know the Nokia CD that comes with this phone only works on a PC - but I have a Mac. What does the software actually do? Say I wanted to install something like Garmin Mobile XT, do I need whats on that Nokia CD? If what's on that CD is important, would I definitely need a Windows PC? I have a Windows PC at work, or I could use a virtual PC thingy on my Mac... That would work wouldn't it?
Soz for all the questions (you may expect many more from me!) Cheers!
u dont need the cd, theres is nothing of importance on it at all, the best thing to do is download the apps u want on ur n95 and then plug ur n95 into the usb on ur mac and on the fones screen select data transfer mode, then on the mac u shud see the n95 as a external drive, just open it then drag and drop ur apps to it, disconect n95 then goto file manager in the menu, open it and press right then find ur apps u put on and click them to instal them, thats it.

or win4mac etc .. they work pretty well on Intel based Macs .. I haven't tried it myself but crossover has a free trial .. probably long enough to prove it works and do your install.
Good Luck! please report back if it goes well/badly😊

So literally... That's all that is on the CD. I could do exactly the same thing by just using Bluetooth or USB to transfer the SIS files and install them on the phone myself?
How about updating the firmware on the N95 8GB? I've just got my N95 8GB and know there is a firmware update for it... Do I need the software on the Nokia CD for that?
Yes the 'PC Suite' performs the firmware download from Nokia and transfers it to the phone.
Maybe a friend could lend you their PC long enough to do this?
I have a Windows computer at work... I will use this. Just wondered if there was a Mac alternative. Many thanks for the replies!
I would agree with the suggestion to move all the sis files to your memory card and install on the device. This also has the benefit that if/when you firmware update or format the phone you have all the installers sat there ready to go back on.
Just download Nokia Multimedia Transfer, no need to mess around with windows. It'll let you browse/install/delete files on the phone or card as well has itunes and iphoto integration. Plus it's free and from Nokia.
I have an n95 8gb and a ppc mac. It seems garmin xt mobile requires a windows computer to install the software onto the phone via the usb, the setup file is not a sis or any symbian compatable file (i dont think) it is an exe! I assume I will have no way of installing this unless i find a pc?
The PC .exe may actually be a Zip file, maybe you can find the .sis file inside?
I had a similar problem with my N95 and installing Co-Pilot around 18 months ago. It had to be done using a Windows PC , as the installation process would not work with my Mac and the N95.
I suspect it might be the same with Garmin, the installation procedures may only be possible via Windows. Real shame that most of these companies are so lazy and can be bothered producing for Windows and not Mac.
