T9 Input

Im a big 7650 user, this is the only thing stopping me havin the p800, so If this is do'able, then I'll probley get one!

I don't think it'll take long for SE to release the official T9 input add-on for the P800. Afterall, it's be the best input method for any phone with a keypad (with the keypad closed in P800's case 😉).

Does anyone suppose the reason T9 is not included because of all the problems initial relase T68's had with it?

I think the reason is that the phone is ment to be a Palm and not a phone, also because of the well function handwritten regonition.

But sinse i also use the phone when im on a disco, I would love the T9.

Well it would be good if they did it, because

I would buy it with T9

I will not buy it without T9 [Handwritting takes more effort and thought, I want an easy device that simplfies my life, I dont want to complicate things! I even use an old fashoined 'paper' diary, -Much easier to use, quicker to access, easier to look at, lighter, thinner, more reliable, can drop it, cheaper to replace... etc...]

I thought AOL was working on T9 for the p800.... When will it finally be available?!? :-?

Who knows :-? I'm surprised it hasn't come yet...

Don't really mind much though, would rather have a word complete app for the virtual QWERTY keyboard. Never got completely used to handwriting recognition, but I can type faster using the virtual QWERTY keyboard than with T9.

I do agree however that T9 would be very useful on occations where you don't want to draw attention to your self using the pen, and for one handed usage.

T9 is not really big in my case but regarding the info about T9 input being developed by AOL for the p800,i think the info was that T9 being developed for Symbian, and not specific to the p800.So don't get your hopes up too much.

Well, what other Symbian phone needs T9?? The Nokia's have it built-in allready, so I guess (hope) that this is actually for the P800
92xx doesn't have T9.. :P
Well, ok, but I guess 92xx users don't really need it, since they have a huge keyboard... 😊

True that, but I still think many 92xx users would like to have it when quickly replying to a message without having to actually open the "laptop" every time :P

Have to agree cant see the point in T9 with the P800, what I would like though is like on a Pocket PC a system that tries to guess what your typing and gives a choice of complete words..

There will be no T9 text input for the P800; unless it is a third party application.

Check out www.cic.com to find out more about Jot and Wordcomplete for the P800.

I went to that website, and as far as I can see, those two apps are Palm OS only... :-?

The phone part of the 92xx doesn't run on Symbian like the inside does. So how is 'T9 for Symbian' going to help?

Good point! Got you there Raven 😉

So perhaps AOL T9 IS for the P800 after all

How can that be? The P800 COMES LOADED with Jot (Check: Manual/Whitepaper). Try looking HARDER next time.

I did NOT think I would have to hold your hand all the way to the website; but OK.

Use THIS link: www.cic.com/press/eventdetail.asp?NewsId=182 , and READ the part about Wordcomplete approximately mid-page.

Thanx for the direct link. But the text states that it won't be available until "later 2003"... perhaps than there is T9 for the P800 allready.. (although I would still download/buy wordcomplete, even if T9 was allready there, it's great for other apps as well, like MSN)

CIC plans to make its WordComplete; text entry utility which provides multilingual dictionaries for even faster data entry, and Sign-On; biometric security application for device access available for the P800 later in 2003.

WordComplete anticipates what you write. It speeds up text entry by showing you a pop-up list of word choices once you enter just a few letters. Just select the word you want and it's automatically entered into your note. It can be customized so that frequently used words appear at the top of the pop-up list.

WordComplete supports the most popular text entry systems including the Graffiti, Jot and the pop-up and hardware keyboard. It's like shorthand for your Palm connected organizer!

Thanks for the link, this is exactly what I'm looking for! 😊
