What cool stuff can the N95 do

22 replies · 13,330 views · Started 13 January 2008

Ok ive installed the light saber app which is cool. ive put movies on, I have ordered garmin sat nav. what other cool apps or software can i put on this phone.

Seach for rotateme, accelerometer, games and perhaps some other things other members can think of on this forum.

SportsTracker, Activity Monitor, EmTube, PanoMan, Google Maps/Earth, Calcium, Nokia DJ mixer, Vibe, Nokia Audio books.

+ 1000s more. Depends on what floats your boat really!

Ah yes, google earth (provided you have a decent dataplan) is probably the best thing about the phone.

For me some of the most useful apps are the blacklists and answering machines. I pretty much never answer phone calls, and long ago got tired of the "Wanna be my txt m8" messages every few minutes.

At the moment I use SMS Spam Manager, and Advanced Call Manager from Webgate. (This is not an advert for webgate, just that their software works, and is decently priced) PhonePilot is a good alternative too.

Resco Picture Viewer, and one of those animated SMS thingies - saves me having to type smiley characters for people who are easily offended.

really like the look of rotateme. but how difficult is it to register with symbiansigned. looks like i wont be gettin that app!!!

is there a way of getting around the signing process

emTube, streams full youtube videos to your phone. highly fun when you have nothing to do. also, best profiles automatically switches your phone profile, bluetooth, and other apps based on your location to cell phone towers. so it memorizes your "work" towers and "home" towers, and when you travel into those areas, it sets the ringers accordingly, and automatically without you having to do anything.

also, google maps is great and free, and uses the internal gps. so you can see satellite view of your position on the map. garmin is also the best gps app currently.

slick is the best IM app, and its free. supports all IM services AIM google talk etc.

FScaller for full screen caller pics.

energy profiler for battery info.

nokia sports tracker, awesome.

internet radio app, awesome.

quickoffice and PDF+.

total recall, records your phone calls without the beep.

coreplayer, to play any video file you want.

nokia conversation threaded app. totally a must have app, uses your contacts.

symella, download music p2p onto the phone.

mweather, free weather app.

active notes, awesome.

skyquikey, totally totally awesome. just try it out for yourself, its insane!

screenshot, stills of your phone screen.

irRemote, control your tv or any tv or device with the ir port of your phone. great when you wanna change the channel at the pub but they dont give you the remote. just download that tv model, and point and shoot at the teli.

that should be enough to get you started😊

Why is the DJ Mixing app only on the Nokia India website and not on the others? :con?

Subjective and I for one certainly disagree. Their maps are rubbish, the instructions late, screen refresh slow..... again another subjective opinion but having had Garmin software, the stuff will never get loaded by me again. And as for their Maploader software....aarrgg!

Yes it's free but I'd hardly call it the best. Isn't it still a beta, which I tried and doesn't have anywhere near the functionality of something such as Agile? I even prefer Fring, which is also free.

I made the first software update for my new Nokia N95. If you are a Nokia smartphone user you might know you can update your phone software over the air or using a PC and the Nokia PC Suite. Its very easy and I recommend doing it. Usually the updates are small bug fixes, but if you are lucky you might get a better camera by updating your phone - Its all about software these days…The firmware update I performed was to 11.0.0.26. This update should improve speed, imaging and more.

The maps are rubbish compared to what? You don't provide any facts, without evidence to back your claims up, you are just pointless noise.

If the maps for your tiny little area of the world are less than perfect, then why don't you step up and make the corrections - submit them back to Garmin or any one of the thousands of online mapping communities that are able to put the corrections to good use.

Maploader is one of several from Garmin, I prefer mapsource, though there are about 10 other 3rd party apps that are able to perform the same function either better or equal to maploader. You know, best tool for the job and all.

Screen refresh occurs at the same speed the GPS provides position updates, what point is there in doing it any faster? The thing that is a little slow is the pan mode, though it gets faster the longer you hold the nav pad down in the direction you need.

You are the first person I've ever heard say that turn by turn alerts are late on the N95 - I've used Mobile XT for a long while now, never once has it told me to turn late. I browse a lot of forums, and have a keen interest in GPS, the only place your statement would even remotely be accurate is in the E series phones, though this has been addressed and corrected in various software updates.

Not sure about the maps, but the turn instructions are most definatly late. This noticed by me and a friend running the same software. Using a 6110, and an N95 8GB.

Pestering Garmin for an option to change the timing (some satnav software has this) would solve that.

Man you take offense easily. My post was in no way meant to be offensive and if you re-read it you will see that I add that my opions were subjective as well. Sorry if that is the way you feel. Forums are an area of discussion. So try not to be offensive yourself.

As an aside, saying something is rubbish does not need a comparison, it is an thought. You don't need to say it is rubbish compared with something. I was just saying I felt that the Garmin maps, from my experience, do not offer the degree of clarity that I like, as well as various errors I found, and slow redrawing of maps around some junctions. I've used Garmin, didn't like it and it would take a lot of improvements to make me try it again. And reading the various post on the XT thread doesn't make it seem like the killer app yet either.

But as I said, all IMHO. (and I note you are entitled to yours)

I'm not even remotely offended. You just didn't have any substance in your statements, so I called you on them. If you had responded initially with what you've put here in your second paragraph, then I would never have posted, your 'Rubbish' now has substance. 😊

Saying something is rubbish implies that there is something better, otherwise there is no datum from which to compare or judge, so to comment is not necessary.

Sorry but that is complete bull that you just made up to justify your argument. The word rubbish implies nothing of the sort, it's just a word he's using to say he found Garmin worth nothing more than throwing away. You don't need data (datum is singular) from a rival product to form an opinion of the one your using.

It was certainly a fair point, he even said that it was subjective.

For my garmin to do list, its bettering the voice instructions, and updating the postcode database. Oh, and making the POI better. For some reason it did delete all my POI when I added some new ones. So unless you do them all in one go, you wont get them all on. Perhaps this is a bug, I assume so.

I havent given it a decent test since getting the new maps, which apperently cure the awful roundabout issue for the UK that it has.

Back on topic, another cool thing the N95 can do is change profiles by location. It needs (paid for) software, but its a very clever app that can do various things when you change location. Based on the cell area.

Your opinion is duly noted, mine is different. Whatever.

maybe the maps in your area are not as good. but here in SoCal USA, the garmin GPS is spot on with the voice and turns. its actually more accurate than my factory acura navigation, and the search works excellent here. garmin is just simply rock solid for me here. sorry it doesnt work for you. but its still the best gps solution for the n95.

This app has been withdrawn for the time being by Nokia, due to problems with the n95, have you had any probs with it? and do you know anywhere where I can get it?
cheers

chrsfrwll wrote:In your opinion. 😉

yeah its my opinion. but its also the best looking interface, and uses the internal gps. so that puts it above the others IMO.

it was withdrawn because there was a compatibility problem, though i still use mine and it works fine. what was happening is, once you install conversation, and you go back to use the regular message app, every once in a while when you try to send a text message it fails. so all you would have to do is go into your outbox and re-send the text, and it goes thru no problem everytime. note: if you strictly use the new conversation app to send all messages, they go thru everytime and there are no problems. but still this is why nokia removed it to work out the bugs. i still recommend using it, and its available online. but i dont know where. if you search i think you will find it easily. searchword "nokia conversation threaded beta labs"

Cheers for that, I have found the n95 version and just installed it, will try it out and see how it goes.
