I updated my N95 to the v20 firmware recently, but am having a problem with editing video. There used to be an option in the video editor that was something like "Edit for MMS" that would allow you to crop and recode a high quality video so that it would fit in 300k for sending in MMS. But that feature seems to have been removed in this firmware. What am I missing? Is there some other way to do this now?
Editing Video For MMS On The N95, Has this feature been removed?
I'm sorry to inform you that your phone does not edit videos anymore .. Nokia DID remove that feature for stupid reasons " as I guess for security measures .. "
CHEERS.
....the removal of things after a firmware update does wind me up...it's like taking your car in for a service then getting it back and the garage says 'oh, I removed the radio as it makes a noise....and we have taken out the speedometer as it told you how fast you were going' 😡

I agree. Even if only a handful of people use it, if it doesn't take up much space/memory why get rid of it? It's great to have this kickass camera but if I just wanna send some stupid quick thing to a friend, I don't wanna have to boot up the pc, copy it over, convert it down, copy it back and THEN send it!
i upgraded my n95 too and quit depressing it is done by nokia
Oh, that's sad news. I found this feature quite useful on a number of occasions.
The loss of that and GPS tracking on routes in Nokia Maps, something I also used to use, puts me off upgrading. Although, the improvements they have made sound pretty extensive.
Nokia and Apple are the only two companies I know of who remove features with upgrades!
I got the impression they removed tracking as some were using it to navigate while driving, but without the voice instructions. Hence making them look at the screen.

....that kinda makes sense, and I'm sure most people will see the logic. But to remove the function of being able to edit video to be able to send via MMS is just daft....also the removal of muvee maker was a bit off colour. I sometimes wonder if Nokia reel in purchasers with incentives such as these, then pull the carpet out from under them hoping that a 3rd party developer will fill the gap (presumably after paying Nokia for some sort of licence)?
.....Oh well, I supose they are a profit making business after all.
Just for curiosities sake...can anyone think of other features that have been removed / crippled over the various firmware updates?
I liked Muvees. It was quite fun but the memory errors it constantly threw made it very annoying. I expect they received a lot of feedback saying that so just ditched it. Ironically, the firmware update that removed it was also the one that improved RAM handling and would probably have resolved the memory errors!

I agree. And Im still puzzled as to why they did. I didnt see anything about common errors, so I dont think it was particuarly troublesome.
I reckon they might just be slimlining the OS. People complain nokias are to complicated to use, with cluttered menus etc. Well, thats the price you have to pay for such functionality.
Its like my old 6233, it had a countdown timer. I really missed that in my 6110.
Damn, Looks like I'll just have to wait for a 3rd party dev to come along and fill in the gap. 😡
I'm confused here. The "muvee" app was a hangover from early N-series devices and was a pile of pants. When you take a video clip intended for MMS, you just set the resolution to "Sharing Quality - Limited video clip size for sending in a multimedia message (MMS)". If you still need to edit it, you go to Gallery and choose Edit - Video Editor. If you've inadvertently shot some video in high-res and realise you want to MMS it, you can snip the ends off, and/or irrelevant bits out, and save in 'medium' rather than 'high'.
You can also shoot video from within the messaging app: Insert New - video clip.
....Muvee was cool! Just the right side of tacky for MMS.
I don't really want to take all my video @ MMS quality to start with, I would rather still be able to reduce the quality after, so I have one decent resolution for archive and another lower MMS one to send.
How long can the video clip be if originally taken on TV high quality then reduced to medium on the video editor?
It was also the convience of it all. No guessing about how long you needed it to be with cropping etc. You just picked the bit you wanted and out popped a video at <300k properly compressed and good to go. You just attached it and sent.
It especially made it handy if you'd recorded maybe 3 mins of performance and just wanted to send a snip of it.
hy downt worry you can find a software to do that work
ok, I suppose it's fair enough to say that there is 3rd party software that can do it.
Does anyone know of any?
I've been searching both google and other forums for one but haven't found anything. Although, apparently, it's been noted on another forum that you are able to edit movies through nokia pc suite. I want muvee back 😞
I just can't imagine why they would remove a feature like this. Guess we'll just have to hope that it comes back in later firmwares.
That seems a minor problem although useful sometimes, The totally stupid thing is the removal of the complete video editor on the N95 8gb, even the N70 has this nice feature... On the standard N95 you can add titles, mix with music and so on and this feature has been supressed on the 8 Gb version. I was planning to change my standard N95 with the new one until I heard of that so shame on you Nokia you lost a sale
It's back! Someone at Nokia heard my plees and the v21 firmware has this useful feature back in the video editor once more!
Just edit a video in Video Editor, then Options > Movie > Edit for MMS
Yes I can confirm it's there! Funny, I thought the video editing facility was removed completely in v20. Still, nice to know it's there 😊
