N95 8GB music player problem

16 replies · 17,181 views · Started 17 January 2008

Hi I was wondering if anyone has heard of my problem on this phone before - I have transferred about 2 Gb's worth of mp3 tracks via Windows Media Player to the phone and in the file manager can see the files in the Music directory of Mass Memeory. However in the music player application the tracks are not listed and the only way I can get it to see a track is to transfer it to the digital sounds folder in the phone memory. The problem with that obviously is that that memory is only about 120Mb!
It appears that the music player is not looking in the correct drive/folder for the mp3's. 3 customer service don't seem to have heard of the problem before as they can't fix it.
BTW this is on 3 network with f/w 11.??

I had the same problem with my N95-1 and fixed it. But you case is different since you don't have SD.

Hi Sheppo, try the following:

1) Copy the music files you want to wherever you want on the memory card.
2) Connect the phone in "Data transfer" mode to your PC.
3) Delete the two files in "E:\private\101FFC31" (called "mpxv1.mpd" and "pcv5.mpd"😉.
4) Delete the one file in "E:\private\101ffca9" (called "harvesterdb.dat"😉.
5) Disconnect the phone from the PC and run the Music Player on the phone.
6) Wait a while for the app to startup. It will be rebuilding the library......
7) Just to be sure, select "Refresh".

Good luck!

^ He has the N95 8GB hence no memory card. On my N95-1 I copied all my music files in the "Attachments" folder.

Why not convert them in2 m4a files with the pcsuite app music (choose file, search 4 map on pc , select it and yes when asked 2 convert the mp3)?
They will B create with 1/3 of the mp3 size and they R more compatible with no0kia music player in the N95 8GB

Hi Sheppo 1966,
For I had the same effekt after transferring mp3s.
Im not an expert, maybe you did this anyway:
press media key
choose music
choose the item above podcasts (in german its called also "music"😉
now youre in the musicmenu
press the "back" button
now on the screen is music (number of songs) and podcast (number)
press "options"
choose "actualise" (or whatever it is named in the english menu)
now my 8GB searches and found every mp3 I transferred.

maybe it works?
greetings

That's ok, my instructions remain exactly the same! I did exactly this on my N95 8GB a couple of days ago.

When I refer to "memory card" just replace the phrase with "mass memory".

No card reader required, you just connect the phone to the PC with the USB cable & follow the instructions.

You can copy your music files to any folder you like, it doesn't matter one bit.

thanks gordonshowers I will try that if 3 customer services can't come up with anything - btw is youre phone on 3 network as I was wondering if this was a problem only with their firmware?
I'm a bit reluctant to do anything drastic to the phone in case I have to send it back - theoretically I am still within my 14 day return period

Risking stating the obvious, you have "refreshed" the files in Music Player>Music>Options>refresh. No amount of file fiddling myself would get the tracks into music player without doing this.

Gordon, you are my hero too!

I've spent ages trying to delete artists and albums from the list showing in the music player - even though they didn't contain any songs. Your tip did the trick - many thanks!

Thanks for this guys, I had exactly the same problem! I've been fiddling around all day trying to find the tunes i've added, I had no idea about the refresh function

This is brilliant. It gets rid of most of those "ghost" podcasts, too. However, is there a way of getting rid of ghost podcasts on the c: drive? You can't access the c: drive in data transfer mode and Y-browser doesn't seem to be able to see hidden folders.

Hi, sure hope Gordon still checks here. He seems to be in the loop, but if anyone can help me... much appreciated:

I have similar problems with my 8gb n95 (couldn't tell you which firmware upgrade it came with, but I haven't downloaded any myself).
I've added and subbed music to the phone with no problems for a fair while, both via winamp, windows media player (once, it worked though), windows explorer and most often ACDSee, all no problems. Infact it was difficulties with the nokia pc software that made me use everything else. Normally I would just drag and drop, hit refresh in the phone and sometimes after an hour of refreshing 4500 songs, pow, it would work straight away.

Have been having some problems recently where by drag and drop like normal but the refresh process just freezes. You can go back to the main menu and do virtually anything else, when you come back to the music menu that should still be refreshing and showing how many songs have been added or similar - nothing, frozen screen until you leave the app. Sometimes it will just die.

Frustrated I figured for a fairly clean slate - wipe all the mp3s on there under the music folder (mass storage), and then drag and drop all the stuff I wanted, afresh. Saving on one 'refresh' and hopefully an easier start. Well, same problem, epic freeze and not so epic levels of result.

Been looking into this, saw GordonShowers post and thought - that seems logical, that makes sense, i'll try that. Except I don't have a privacy file there. Bemused I did a search for any files anywhere in the phone containing th specific files that were specified for deletion... none.

This I guess would mean somewhere along the line I have deleted the 'privacy' folder and what it had in it (checked recycle bin, nothing)...

sooo....? fun times eh? The music is sitting there but the phone wont refresh to see it there. A little annoying, any suggestions?

Am getting tempted to find out how to completely wipe the system and reinstall, if someone can point me to a handy link regarding that i'd be appreciative, but it's not the solution I was ideally looking for at the moment.

Muchas Gracious in advance

The private folder is hidden you have to set your pc to show hidden folders in folder options. Hope this helps.
