is there a free app that will lock the phone when the keylock is applied, so that a pin must be entered to access the phone?

I think you can do that without using any third party apps, look in the phone security settings i have seen it on sum1s N95 will try an find out but i am sure i will be beatin to it by fellow users!
You might not need to install an app. There's a locking feature on the phone already. Goto:
Tools -> Settings -> General -> Security -> Phone and SIM card
...and you can specify the locking settings there.
To do what you want to achieve, may I suggest the following settings:
Phone autolock period: 1 minute
Lock keys if slide closed: Yes
Lock code: Any number you want. The default is 12345
If you want to lock your phone sooner, you can press the on/off button at the top and scroll down to Lock Phone. This locks it straight away.
