Wireless printing?

15 replies · 12,319 views · Started 19 January 2008

ive just bought a wireless lexmark printer. I have printed from my n95 8gb using pictbridge with the usb lead.

Can I print wirelessly though? either direct or via the laptop?

If so how..

Also whats the difference with just pressing options print and then adding to print basket?

yeh i was trying to figure this out last week but just gave up after a wee while , hope some one knows?

How do you mean "wireless"? Do you mean:

  • Wi-fi 802.11a/b/g to connect it wirelessly to an existing network? ...or...
  • Built-in Bluetooth which will print whichever files it receives?

This is important since, if it's the first answer, it may not be possible to create ad-hoc wireless connections to the printer. It may only work on wireless infrastructures (e.g. home networks with a router/switch/hub). Instead, you may need to investigate into getting the N95-8 wirelessly connected to the same network and then send a file to the printer.

If the answer is bluetooth, just send something to it via bluetooth 😊

well i cant get it to do it via bluetooth either. When i press print it just sends the file to my computer. What i did mean though was wi fi printing. The printer is on my home network which user a belkin router. My laptop n95 playstation and printer are all now on my home wi fi network. So if u could explain how i get both to work. Both bluetooth and wi fi it would be good. Wi fi is more important as i would be able to print without the laptop being on that way.

The only way that I'm aware of is if you select the photo you want to print, select "Print" from one of the buttons that appears from the right hand side and then it will search for a printer using USB, Bluetooth an WLAN all at the same time.

I've just tried it now though and it didn't work for me. I've got a printer connected to my wireless network (its connected via ethernet though) and my N95 couldn't find it.

If your printer is set up correctly on your network ie as an upnp printer your phone should detect it automatically. My HP one works flawlessly.

its a Lexmark 3500-4500 series and its a wi fi printer. I have no connections with wires apart form the power.

I presume its a UPNP one then? how doI set it up to print my n95 8gb images over the wi fi netework anyone know.
Whenever i search it just searches for a second then says new search on my phone..

i think theres an issue there then. If you read help in print options it says there are settings for print quality and size etc but there isnt on mine. In fact when i click print via wireless lan it tries to search via bluetooth and if i turn bluetooth off and search again via wireless lan it asks me if i want to turn bluetooth on. That shouldnt happen surely? Is it same for you?

It searches via Bluetooth, WLAN, the USB port, and your memory card all at the same time. If you leave it for a moment, you'll see the WLAN symbol appear in the top right hand corner.

Doesn't it show on yours? :con?

correction. If i turn bluetooth off it doesnt ask me if i want to turn it on when i try and print via wi fi but if i search for wi fi it attempts it for about a tenth of a second then gives up but while doing it i see the bluetooth symbol in the search box during the searching period.

if i leave it it tries via bluetooth and then says error 6004 unable to connect

sorry for all the replies, was using phone to post and it wont let you edit a post i have to press post reply instead. These are my screenshots. I dont want it to print via my laptop like it says. I want it to send directly to the printer, the lexmark wi fi printer on my home network. Like i said above there are no settings for print quality/size etc like it says in the help. When i try and change the default printer and i click wi fi printer it searches for less than a second and i see the bluetooth symbol then it come back to same and i can press new search again...

How do I get my n95 8gb to find this printer please?

Liam

I've been trying for ages to print from my N95 via wireless, mainly to print off emails and notes etc, but never managed it.

My girlfriend has an E65 and followed these instructions to get printing working from her phone. But when I print, the printer whirs, but nothing comes out. If I try from my N95, is says cannot connect.

In fact now when I'm viewing emails (from the built in client) there's no print option, I'm sure there used to be with older firmwares (I'm on v20).

The set up I have at home is a Lexmark printer connected to a Windows 2003 server (Always on) by a parralel cable, which is then connect to a wireless router. Any PC or laptop connected either via wireless or wired can print fine.

why do you think my n95 8gb isnt detecting this lexmark X4550 wi fo printer then?
