I'm tired of taking my MiniSD card out and putting it in my laptop and back and forth to transfer audio & video files back and forth. I was hoping there was an easy way to connect to my home network via WiFi and transfer via wireless connection. Is this even possible.
Connect via WiFi to transfer files??
You might try installing an FTP server (http://filezilla-project.org) on your laptop and then transfering from you phone using SiC!FTP (http://www.sic-software.com). I haven't tried that myself since one thing I have noticed is that WiFi speed on my E61 is ~40% of what it could be. Everytime I do a speed test I see numbers about 40% of the actual speed of the connection. So at my house with a 1 Meg DSL connection I see ~400 kb/s and at my parent's house with a 3 Meg connection I see ~1.2 Meg/s. I have a pocket PC with WiFi that gives me the full speed available. I'm guessing that Nokia deliberately limited WiFi speed to save battery life. Certainly the E61 lasts a lot longer than the Pocket PC when using WiFi.
I find that the USB cable connection is fast and hassle free for transfering files, so that's what I use for big files and I use Bluetooth for small files.
I may have to check that out. I don't need to transfer a lot of files as it's usually a couple pics or MP3's here and there. If I was adding a move/video or transferring tons of files then I would find my SD adapter and plug it into the laptop for faster transfers. It's rare that I do that though and being able to connect wirelessly to transfer a couple small files would be great. Has anyone used this yet??
I hate my USB for a few reasons... both of which are connection. The phone side is VERY touchy and comes undone all the time. I think I read there was a new version of the cable but haven't looked into it much. Also, the USB plugs on my laptop are busted so they are hit or miss too.
I wish I could turn my WiFi up to 100% because battery life isn't an issue but if I could double my transfer speed I would be in heaven.
SymSMB is the way to go:
"Telexy Networks SymSMB 2.00 connects your Series 60 3d edition Symbian mobile computer to any trusted PC network and turns your mobile into a mobile networked computer without needing extra cables, without needing to install PC software and without establishing an account at yet another Web site. "
Worked excellently for me...
I would also like to mention that I'm looking for a free option here.
