Nokia: Looking ahead to February 11th

Nokia has started to put up information and links to do with the upcoming Mobile World Congress (3GSM). Quite apart from any devices that may (or may not) be launched, OPK's keynote is trailered by "will share his views on the significance of 'disruptive changes' in the industry". Plenty of scope for Facebook/N-Gage/Ovi chat then?

Read on in the full article.

I really hope NOK will bring out the REAL successor of the E61! or for that matter a full QUARTY N-Series phone with same specs as the N82 with Xenon flash and min 8GB storage AND w/external SD/miniSD.

I love Nokia phones but lately they have been frustrating me, they are slow at bringing out updates of phones. I mean i have the E61 since 2005 and now we have 2008 and there is still no real update to a Nokia branded full QUARTY phone from them, how can that be??? how can it be that apple comes out with a phone that can beat a company such as Nokia in so many ways at their own game??!!

Let's see: How hard would it be if Nokia made a full QUARTY N-Series phone with same specs as N82 and let's add some storage please shall we with the option to extend with SD? THIS CAN NOT BE THAT HARD TO DO AND PLEASE DONT MAKE IT SO UGLY LIKE THE N82 or for that matter the E61!!! It should be thin, NOT THAT WIDE LIKE THE E61 and sexy!!!

I have heard of the E71 and have seen some spy shots, looks not bad, hope it will come with some good specs and some STORAGE!

same here my friend. been using e61i for a year now and still waiting for an upgrade...

E61i in my eyes was not an update but rather a step back! The additional buttons they added just cramped up the keys and made it harder to press them! Adding only a camera to the E61 TWO YEARS LATER is not an update! Give me a f**** break! They could have done that from the beginning and sell both at the same time, one with camera and one without a camera!

If I was in charge of product design at Nokia I would come up with some sick phones! They seem to have the right product, they just package them in a bad way!

for example:

As I previously mentioned, the N82 has some great features and to say the least is probably the cell phone to beat in the whole wide world, BUT the packaging? Let's just be polite say it's rather f**** UGLY!!! How can the best featured in the world be packaged so f**** poorly?! It's inexcusable! NO. NO. NO. If I was the design chief I would have fired myself on that!

To the design of the N95: I don't know if it's just me but I don't particularly like the design. It has almost as much features as the N82 but packaged a little bit better, however, here again the packaging falls rather short and is rather UGLY for such a phone of this caliber.

Nokia definitely needs to get it right because so far their greatest disadvantage is their packaging. I recently observed at the local Media Markt the E51, now I have to say, for a compact phone it's been the most pleasantly looking phone I have seen from Nokia and they should build on that, they need to take that design and package the N82 similarly, then maybe then we'll see some great looking phones coming from Finland, we all know that their technology just works but their design however doesn't.

Some designs i do like from Nokia:
E51 (currently the best candy bar phone on the market)
E90 (if you're into such kinda phones, it looks decent)
8800
N76 (now make it smaller and we've got something here)
E70 (needs to be slimmer but could work great as an N-Gage phone)
E61i (less wide, better buttons to push)
6110 (not bad looking for a slider, lots of room for improvement)
7710 (great concept, now make it slim&tidy and add all the best features there are and you have something great)
6260 (great looking flip phone, probably the best looking flip phone nok has ever made)

That's it though, the rest you can flush down the toilette as far as I'm concerned.

Cool, looking forward to the news / meeting the Nokia people and the news in there 😊

I'll also be there, representing the Smartphone & Pocket PC Mag as the news editor / reporter. I'll mostly concentrate on Windows Mobile, but, I'm being a multi-platform geek, will also extensively cover / report on Symbian / Nokia and Blackberry too.
