As an ex Psion 3a, 5 and finally netBook user who went to Blackberrys (7730/8700v/8800) 4 years ago I have obtained an e90 from Vodafone which arrived a few hours ago.

Were it not for this forum I would most probably not have chosen the device in the 1st place - and more than likely packed the thing up and returned it back to Vodafone tomorrow in frustration at not being able to get the keyboard backlight or keypad lock turned off - the poxy manual has an index entry for 'lights' that says Page 85...nothing there about lights 😡 Thanks to you guys I have both problems sorted so thanks a lot.

1st impressions are very good - the build quality and the materials used are superb with cast metal screen hinges an attractive tactile feel to it - it arrived when I was in the office today and everyone who picked it up said - that feels so nice to touch and then marvelled at the gorgeous screen. The device came with the latest OS firmware installed and performance is pretty snappy. Compared with a Blackberry Pearl 8800 the pure phone/contacts/calendar interface dosen't seem as easy to use quickly - maybe that's me and lack of practice though. The office apps are neat and the Web browsing capability (primary reason for selecting the e90) is just fantastic - especially with 3G. Web browsing on an 8800 was pretty hopeless at the best of times.

I have been a Vodafone business customer for many years and was disappointed to be asked to pay £348 to upgrade my 8800 on Monday morning - when I could port my number and take a new contract for the same phone with Vodafone for less than half that as a new customer...........madness!

If it happens to you - just call back and ask for a PAC code so you can go to another supplier - suddenly reality dawns and nothing is too much trouble....funny that😮
