A new firmware update for the Nokia N82 is now available (from 10.0.046 to 11.0.117). The update appears to be relatively minor with a number of bug fixes and stability improvements. However it is notable for being the first Nseries firmware updates that supports User Data Preservation (UDP).

Weird - I ran the Software Update this morning (from the US side) with the latest Software Updater for the N82 (downloaded from europe.nokia.com) - and it tells me that my "phone software is already up to date"....??
Darn....really wanted this update....maybe all the SUS aren't updated yet?
^Yup, that's one problem with US product codes, change yours to euro 1

Thanks...! Where / how exactly do I do that?
Hi all N82 users
I strongly advice all of you to immediately update to this firmware.
Because, the firmware update is also zippy - just download and update, NO NEED TO TAKE BACKUP AND REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE AND OTHER THINGS. NO NEED TO TAKE BACKUP OF CONTACTS AND EVERYTHING.
After the update, everything in the phone is ziipppy. No flaws at all. But, this firmware doesn't bring any additional add-ons. Still it's a good update.
THanks
Bala
Ran the Software Update (Version 1.4.0) tonight and got "Phone is not supported". I'm in Thailand. Unlocked, non-operator N82.
What you think?
Update completed. Still not able to watch video on youtube. The update only fixed some bugs.
Just updated the software nothing new at all. Works well and it is over 100MB of download.
BTW update from UAE (United Arab Emirates) sadig elzein
I can't even get the installer to work under Windows Vista at the moment and device update is missing the settings for the Nokia server... ho hum.
WRT support? What is that? :embarasse
i upgraded n82 to 11.0.117 firmware today.it can be done after upgrading the nokia software updater to 1.4.23 version which will detect n82, earlier versions doesnt detect.after upgrading it feels as if it is faster and smoother.everything remains the same nothing has been deleted or corrupted except for the new firmware change when u press *#0000#.the firmware is 98.4mb when i downloaded

Ah, so that's why it doesn't work on a PC with Norwegian software... it uses an older version of the updater...
There are a lot more changes in the firmware than what the changelog states. but there are some interesting bugs also - the font layout has changed in a number of places making the text unreadable (standard and installed themes), the options menu displays lots of stuff - not readable! Nokia photos no-longer syncs as lifeblog on the phone hangs. Photos no longer seem to be saved upside down so there is one plus (I had a issue where a number of photos would be saved upside down....)... GPS seems to take a lot longer to sync - and in a number of cases does not unless the phone is restarted...
awaits an update... reminds me of some of the early n73 firmware.....
My software updater (1.4.23en) still says that 10.0.046 is the newest. 😞
edit:
Changed the product code ( http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/67122/ ) from 0558321 to 0551515 and everything is working!
i updated the software updater and it still doesnt recognize the phone. i have the indian model.
Before and after upgrading to new n82 firmware 11.0.117, I had posted a list of features or improvements needed for n82, seems like nokia did not read my post 😊... I hope they read and next time they improve the phone on new firmware.
Please visit this, and contribute, and I will update my long list:

heeeeeeeeelp. I got the phone today and I have been trying to update the firmware with no luck. The download stops at 66.7% every time for no apparent reason. I think I have try everything. Uninstall all the sofware and re-installing it all again (latest versions and from the europe website), change product code. Well I don't know if that is everything, but I have tried sooooo many times. Please help please. thank you

changed my product code from 02 UK (0558909) to EURO1 (0549174) and it updated fine after that. previously said no update available. can't find any changes in phone though.. boring!
What is that code for? I am in Thailand, bought a Thai version. I changed to EURO1, then did the update, which failed. I had to do a hard reset, but apparently the Thai functionality is now missing. However I am still at the old firmware. The phone itself works fine, but I do not understand, which the updated crashed.

Hi All,
I have noticed in a number of threads and replies, that some are advising on changing product codes, me personally, i strongly advise against, it.
As many of you will know, when you get a new nokia phone, it comes with a 24 month (2 year) warrenty,if you decide to change this, and the phone breaks, and is need to be sent of for repair, you will find out that you have a void phone, and nokia will not touch it. it shows up on there screen as the product code changed. Nokia will not touch your phone, thus resulting in either a expensive brick, or an expensive repair bill.
Is upgrading that important, when you can wait a while longer, and Nokia will release a new FW for your phone/country.
Now to the second part....
I have an N82 with V10 FW, its the 3rd one i have had, only due to the fact, that i have upgraded the FW on 2 others, only to find that i lose the function to access line 2, and will only let me put the phone into silent mode via the hash key, when normally it will let me switch between lines using the hash key, this only happens after a FW upgrade, so this 3rd one i have i have left on the V10 and im awaiting the release of a FW that will support Line 2, does any one else have the same problem, and if so how did you get round it. I had this problem on my N95 till i changed the product code to the Austrailian code, and all was fine after, till i damaged the screen, and nokia refused to look at it as i voided the phone by doings so ( as mentioned above).
If anyone can help please could you mail me at
Thanks
Garry

Same thing with my N82.
Nokia blame my service provider, saying that Line 2 (ALS) is a network feature.
Service provider blames Nokia, saying it is a software matter.
Nokia offer no hope of an ALS compatible FW upgrade.
Apparently one guy is getting his money back from Nokia after having encountered the same problem (see http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&thread.id=37186).
On a brighter note, I managed to upgrade an N95 to version 21.0.016 (no product code change) and still have Line 2 function.
