Probably a stupid question..

...Hi, I thought I knew the answers to these two questions but my mate ( who may be an idiot) has put some serious doubt into my head..

I have just bought an N95, here are the two questions..

1: If I connect to my Sky Broadband to hit websites or watch vids on youtube through the wireless router, do I get charged by my network provider (Orange UK)?

2: Do I get charged for using MSN messenger on my phone if again, I am connected to my broadband via my router?

I thought the answer was no to both of these, but my mate says I will get charged.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Jamie

if you are working through your router its nothing to do with your mobile provdier so wont get charged by them. One of the great things about wi fi phones as there are thousands of unsecured wi fi hotspots around the land.

The mobile providers probably hate this feature... well they should have such high prices should they 😊

when i try to conect through my router it asks for web key,how do i find what that is?

No, you wont get charged. Anything going via wifi will be data going via your ADSL/cable, so will certainly not be charged by your network.

thank you for the feedback guys, it's good news because i'm addcited to youtube mobile, ha..and yes, Orange UK charge 8/month for a measly 30MB...and it's slow..my favourite pubs have free wireless in my area so this is good news, lol.

..and to "strobez1977" i found the "Key" printed on the bottom of my router..

Thanks again peeps, I'm going to slap my mate now for worrying me!

WEP key, not WEB key

It's the same one u use connecting your pc, you set it up while setting up your network and your router, so if you don't know it, the person who set it all up should help you.

is that the wireless key under the router?its on a sticker

it sure is, well it is on Sky Broadband but I can't imagine it being much different, give it a go...

..you may need to do this also, I did:

Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Wireless LAN > Options > Advanced Settings, & then set Automatic Configuration to "Disabled", this brings up more options. Leave all as is, apart from Power Saving which you should change to "Disabled".

does anyone know if msn will be charged when you are using your WLAN? i as because the app is apparently going to start charging for use

I just did a bit of research on that and apparently the best bet is "Agile Messenger", however I don't think it's free. :frown:

You could try slick messenger, which does MSN, yahoo, AOL and others. Also fring.
Both free.

Live Messenger is still free on my wife's phone, and they will give two weeks notice when they start charging.

No notice has been given yet......
