speed up n73? what can be done?

First thing is to check the firmware - anything prior to v4 will be pretty slow.

But in general - large numbers of text message in the inbox, hundreds of pictures in the gallery all have an impact.

Applications installed do not have a major impact on performance.

ok i know what you mean my n73 is so ceazy slow... so what i did was instal y-tasks and used the memory manager to make 100mb of ram on my 2gb memory card since then my phone has had no hang ups even that start up time seems quicker.... i think anything over 20mb gives your phone some serious speed

I installed y-tasks and reserved 100meg on my 2 gig card .. not sure I'd agree that the phone is 100% faster, but I do notice a difference in response.

thanks for the advise - appreciate your help.

I'd like to know how making more space on the SD card makes any difference - the phone doesn't use that for anything but data storage, it doesn't use it for anything like swap space.

Methinks this is a bit snake oil ....

I think you're right .. isn't there a way to make the SD card space RAM ?

Nope. And to be honest, the SD card is way too slow to be used as ram, that would hinder performance.

Best thing to do is hope that Nokia manage to get demand paging working on the N73 (v4.0750 was rumoured to have it before being pulled?), which is the next best thing to more ram.

I've nailed it.

Empty out your memorycard to your computer via USB-cable in "external drive mode" (dont know the correct words for it, my phone's danish :P ). Remove card.

Re-connect USB-cable and enter PC-suite mode. Empty the phone for unnessesary pictures, videos and music you've added.
Disconnect cable.

Empty out your text messages, inbox, sent messages, drafts etc, everything.

Goto applications - log - settings. Set application log memory to 1 day, or even better, none.

Restart phone.

Hold the menu-button (button to the left of 1 and 4 :P ), until you get the "task manager" on screen. Choose music-player. End program.

Now, your phone is as fast as it ever will get. Remember to empty out pictures/videos daily, and textes when it reaches about 2-300 in the inbox.

Keep your phone clean , clear cache files ..........remove unwanted less frequently used applications, Transfer the photos and images to PC as soon possible....Upgrade to the latest firmware
