I have the scanning turned off, and I have defined the access point in my e90. However, it repeatedly (every few minutes it seems) scans for a wifi network and asks me to select, even if only one is availabale and I'm already connected. It's very annoying as it continually interupts. Also,I have to reneter the wep key everytime. I followed instructions for setting access point for wan manually, no change

I'm not sure that I understand you correctly, but i think I have an advice a direction to start to find your solution.
On the s60 devices you can setup automatic updates such as email account and web feeds. If you set one of those automatic updates a specific wlan access point and that access point is not accessible the it can fire errors like you have. On other s60 devices is a feature called Access Point Grups wich can avoid this. Myself I miss this feature from the e90 and I don't see the reason why the E90 doesn't have it.
Please double check if ther is a wlan access point set as default to one of the services that can cause your problem.
