Fax software

I know of scanR and another called commo, or something near that.

However I cannot find a program which will also accept incoming faxes.

What would be an ideal solution is software which allows you to receive a fax on your mobile number. Relise its a fax, and store it as an image. Also, able to send faxes like scanr and others.

Im not sure if its possible, as Im not aware of the technicalities of faxes.

yeah, that would be pretty useful wouldn't it.... although its seldom I need to recieve/send a fax the times I do its pretty important.

Theres one called MobileFax but its not S60 3.

Exactly, and being able to do it on the fly....well perfect really. Definatly a convergance device need imo.

Surely its possible? Something that can detect if its a fax and act accordingly.

I thought FAX reception directly to the phone was now only possible on the E series of phones and not the N series. I had it on the 9300 and good 'n useful it was too but seem to recall being told the N95 wouldn't support.

Happy to be told otherwise but I remember Steve L writing an article telling everyone to get over the lack of FAX, a means of communication best left in the 80's, from whence it originated. 😉

yeah, I think it is... but thats the point... 😉

Im well over faxes... I hate them, but... some people are still in the 80's and when needs must ...... 😉

Id love to get over it, but its when a solicitor etc needs to send you something urgent, and telling them to use email instead often doesnt go down well. Suprisingly, theres quite a few who insist that a fax 'is more secure' as it cant be tampered with 🙄 apperently.

IIRC, you actually need a separate number. In GSM-only days I actually had three numbers, for voice, fax, and data. By attaching a little widget on the bottom of my Ericsson T28, I could IR to my Psion and send & receive faxes. It was a hell of a faff and I never used it in anger.

yes, my 9300 (on O2) had a separate number for fax, though "other" data was handled over GSM in the usual way.

Funny that, Ive downloaded it about 20 mins ago, but havent installed it yet. Quite possibly a fruitless exercise, as its only a 10 day trial and you cant buy it yet!

I use eFax, basically it's an online Fax service - you can send and receive fax messages by email - when receiving you get a pdf attachment which the N95 can read. They give you a choice of having a regional or non region specific fax number.

I also use Emoze which is a free push email service - so as soon as a fax is sent to me it comes through almost immediately.

Having a copy of my incoming faxes in email has many benefits I find - ie storage & retrieval etc

Might be worth a try ?

Funnily enough after this conversation, I had to go down to the BM dealer to get a quote. As I was stood admiring the white M3 in the showroom the guy came out to come look at my car. He wrote some details down on his clip board and looked at the dent and then said.....

'Have you got a fax number I can send you the quote on'.....

2 thoughts flashed thru my mind:

1. Id just been looking at over 50k of car engineering quality, and yet the guy is using a clipboard with plain a4 paper and wants to fax me a quote.

2. If I'd have got some fax software from here he coulda faxed me!

Anyway, I said fax....? your having a laugh mate...
and he said... well I can email it you....

why the hell didnt he say that first! 🙄 Those companies... and customers .. are still very much out there where fax is the first option, email the second 😮
