Smart way to sort contacts

5 replies · 2,981 views · Started 29 January 2008

Hi,

On my old Sony Ericsson k800i, I used to sort contacts by adding a typographic sign or two at the beginning of every contact in a given category. For example, my friends from work would start with +, my friends from the club would start with . and a third category would start with ..
This way, I could quickly browse through all the friends in a given category. My directory woud look something like this:

+ Albert
+ Bonnie
. Ariana
. Beatrice
.. Aldo
.. Barbara

Now, I am trying to replicate the same scheme on my N95 8GB, but the contact manager discards the prefixes when sorting and goes on directly to the letter. The previous listing would become:

+ Albert
.. Aldo
. Ariana
.. Barbara
. Beatrice
+ Bonnie

Any suggestions on how to circumvent this problem would be greatly appreciated. I have close to 500 contacts and it essential for me to be able to quicky browse through a given category.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

why not call them:
a alice
a barney
a steve

b alice
b barney
b steve

and so on...

Or just use groups settings. All the info HERE

Or even better, why don't use make use of the Groups feature in Contacts, create a few groups for your different categories of contacts, and add people to their respective groups. Then you can just select a group and view only its members.
