I will be replacing my N95 this year. It's been a fine companion, but in the age of the iPhone, I am hoping Nokia are coming up with something thinner and less clunky than the N95 and with a better web browser. Also the volume controls have stopped working.
I'm not bothered about GPS, but it must have WiFi and run Series 60 3rd edition. Ideally it should also have a 'normal' headphone jack and a better camera than the N95.
I've not been paying much attention to Nokia lately. What have they got in the pipeline?
Cheers

AFAIK, nothing with a better camera. The supposed N96 looks like it only has a 5mp.
There was an alleged patent floating about, which looked like a twisty phone with a 6 or 8 mp camera, but that was only drawing board type, even if true.
Im afraid the only thing is the N82, which is very much the same except its got a xenon flash and its slimmer, although longer.
In the age of the Iphone? I don't know what that is supposed to mean as the Iphone is old technology, larger and you can put Opera on the N95, the best browser on the market (and it's FREE). I mean isn't mac supposed to be about open source, or atleast releasing people from the restrictions currently in place on them? So why all this locked crap with the Iphone and restrictions. The only good thing about the Iphone (not good in my opinion though) is the touch screen, again old technology.
Sorry, I'm just not a fan of I-anything from apple (you can get a mac that doesn't come with all that bloated software trial crap, it just comes with stuff you want like Ilife and Iphoto, Itunes< I don't ues any of that crap).... this is becoming more of a rant than anything so I'll get to my point....
---> If you can hold out, I would suggest you wait for the N96, it's a sleaker form factor. I wouldn't think that anyone would need more than a 5 meg camera in any circumstance. If you're going to be using your photos in a resolution that big (as megapixel referes to the size of the photo, not quality) then you should have a dedicated (D)SLR.
I think I'll end my two cents here as I'm just outraged when people think the Iphone is the "be-all-end-all" of phones.
Okay, will check out the N96 and N82. Cheers.

I didn't mean more megapixels. The 5mp on the N95 is already more than enough for me, and for the quality of the lens. I was after a better quality lens and perhaps a better flash, and something that wasn't so sluggish to use.

I mean that in terms of form factor, UI, music/video and web browser, I think the iPhone kicks Nokia's butt (yes, even with Opera). I'm also a Mac user so I appreciate it's 'Macness'. But I do agree with a lot of your other comments, and they are the reasons why I'm not buying one. Maybe if they 'open' it to developers and other networks, and add the basics like MMS and video recording, I'll change my mind. But until then, I'm sticking with Nokia.

Nice... but too little too late. Need something before then.

Superleccy; I must say I have much respect for you and the way you answered to my post. I'm glad you didn't see it as a personal attack and jump to conclusions like others would in that they'd start an argument.
Unfortunately, most phones on the market are for visual appeal right now as service providers don't care really for what the phone can do other than 'can it make a call and work with our network.'
I think it's only us techy geeks and gadget enthusiasts that keep the cutting edge technology driven phones alive.
I mean how does a phone like the LG shine outsell a nokia n95?

Advertising, name and looks.
so in otherwords, all the wrong reasons. lol
Possibly. You have to take into account that these sheep got a phone that they will use. And can you really see someone who would go for something hyped making the most out of an N95?
But I really do think that if they had given the N95 a better name (or even a name), it would have sold better.
And if it had some flashy gimmick, like a mirror back or something, it would have sold even more! 😉
You know, you are right. It's unfortunate but I guess everyone can't be as smart as us Nokia owners.
You do know I dont own one?
HAHA, no, I did not know that. 😮
😉
I have a 6110, but I do make the most out of it. In fact I have everything bar accelerometer stuff.

...and hsdpa and 5MP camera and tv out and... 😉 JUST KIDDING
I meant software wise 😉
But I would like a macro option, as I take lots of close shots of things (recipies etc) which a 2mp camera just doesnt do well.
Well maybe it's time you come over to our world and experience the N95 first hand!
Already have, Ive setup 2 N95 8GBs!
If you want a better phone visit Japan, or buy one of their models on line. Barring the cameras which need more glass not MP's, they are generally far better in every respect.

1) You are aware of differences in frequencies and services between JP and EU?
2) Please show me something "better" than N95. I mean smaller, with bigger battery, with GPS, TV-out, 3D graphic chipset, SDHC support, HSDPA, OS with support for THOUSANDS app of any sort, better camera than N95 etc...
Can't wait to see this japanese wonder!!
Yes, I am aware of the frequencies. Your EU 3G will work in Japan.
My N95 works absolutely fine in their, and my Japanese phones work absolutely fine everywhere else I've been in the world. Some of the network dependent services are not there, but I still have access to all the 3.whatever G stuff.
As for your point 2 - haha. You are making a joke yes?
Go look at docomo, there is a bigger world than the one you are in.
Im genuinely interested (not taking the mick), can you post specs of it, or one of the N95 beaters, perferably with a link?

Same here!
It's easy to say THEY'RE BETTER...
So,any news on this N95 killer? 😉
Ah well, that was a fun diversion. Didnt think there was one, but it would have been interesting to see.
LOL great debate that turned into🙄
