hi im on vodafone pay as you go and the gps appears to be weak , note im a town with not many buildings att all

so how do i set it up on vodafone uk please

how can i improove the strenghth of it pelase

There are no BETTER settings for GPS.
It's working or not.
The only thing you can improve is fix time by using Assisted GPS, make sure that it's enabled in settings and that it's using Vodafone Internet GPRS as an access point.

Also try opening the slider to get better reception quality, the GPS unit is under the keyboard.

the annoying thing is , if you were doing a bike ride and wanted your phone in your pocket ,
it slides down and often can loose signal anoying lol

That's correct. Apparently the newer Nokia phones with GPS have put the aerial at the top.

i found that i am using vodafone int to wap to gprs they all work lol
but it's really weird cuz on my 3 day trial it picked the signal up in the same place quick
but now on my 30 day one it takes longer to pick up from the same place
could it have something to do with weather
like i guess it wud work better in summer with no clouds

mine wont pick up a signal at all, google earth map does so i dont get it,any ideas?

it didn't take this long to pick up a signal with 3 day trial so why with 30 day trial ,
in the same place
any tips on how to get a gps signal ,

GPS is a very slow transmission, ephemeris, almanac, timing, and sat IDs - almanac stuff can take 20 minutes or so the first time you switch on the GPS, ephemeris is only good for around 4 hours - that can take several minutes to gather on a good day.

Lots of people bang on about how crappy the N95 GPS is, and yes, the antenna could have been placed in a better location, but the GPS is as good as any mid range consumer model available today. SIRF III stuff has a better set of ears, but there is no way to overcome the nature of the beast. You can use all kinds of software hacks to spit out a fix very quickly, but this fix will not be accurate until the most current information is available to the GPS.

Side by side, the N95 will provide a first fix in about the same time as most other units. Figures are generally in the range of 30 seconds to 1 minute for a GPS that has recently been used, and up to 30 minutes for one that has moved location or not been used in a while.

There are ways to speed up Ephemeris and Almanac stuff, simply provide the most up to date info to the GPS externally. A-GPS helps out quite dramatically here. All the unit needs to do then is get the satellite ID's, times, and figure out where it is - this process only takes a few seconds.

Your location doesn't matter - cloud cover does a little bit. If you are sitting beneath a huge snow storm with lots of ice in the sky, then you may lose signal completely.

ok ,

so to get my signal what do i need to do

stand still for a few mins to get a lock

keyboard open

what else

That's all you need to do, stand out in the open somewhere for a few minutes 😊

After the first fix it gets faster the next time round.

so it no good walking about because it wont pick up as qucik
lol can't u just get free gps software anyway

Correct. It won't get a signal as quickly if you're moving.

Free GPS software? Course you can. Example - Nokia maps. You just pay for the spoken guidance.

Most GPS software is "free". BUT - you either pay for the maps, or you pay to get spoken guidance. Haven't yet found the free lunch 🙄

route 66 , gives you directions and navigation simple ,

why should you pay for a little voice when u can just download them for free,
seriously it should be total free.

Weather has nothing to do with it.

If you go to tools/settings/General/Positioning/Postioning Methods and select all except Bluetooth GPS you will notice that it works a lot faster.

So, you'll work for free will you?

Making software costs money, and if people continue to just use cracks then the makers simply wont bother, or just add more and more annoying verifacation methods the legit users like me have to go through.

How do you propose software development is paid for then?

amAze GPS is completely free, so just use it. try it out, it gives full voice turns.

As long as you have a good dataplan, its worth a go. but everything needs to be downloaded on the fly, so watch you dont go over your data limit.

Ive heard its nowhere near as good as the usual satnavs, but I havent tried it myself and dont have the dataplan to do so.

Weather has got quite abit to do with it, so have sun spots and quite afew other things if you want to get picky. On an N95 you are unlikly to really notice unless you are in really bad weather but it does make a diffrence...

Personaly I find using the GPS Data program to find an initial fix seems quicker than anyother program but its only a hunch...

Well caused enough trouble for today better go...
