GPS lock

hello,

sorry if this has been asked, but since i have updated to version 20 i cannot get a lock on my GPS.

i check the satellite info and i have between 3 and 5 listed and i still cannot get a lock.

i don't have an Internet connection is this the reason?

thanks

I am having the same problem
No matter how long I leave it the 3 lights for the GPS signal stay on yellow, moving from one to the other. It cannot get a lock

When I check satellite status it shows 3 satellites but no data available

When you have the map application open, click on 'options', and then scroll down to 'settings'. Selected 'network' and then under the 'use network' option check its set to 'when needed'. If this option is not selected then the phone will not use A-GPS to get a lock on the satelites.

Having a internet connection is not necersarry to achieve a lock-on, only required to obtain map data. But if you download the maps to your memory card via the nokia map loader, then you'll never need to go online using your phone!!!

i did get a lock in the end sorry i should have posted that up.

it took about 3 or 4 minutes to get a lock

That's too long to make this phone as an ideal navigation device. If I am driving or even walking and try to find an address, I don't want to wait 3-4 minutes.

In comparison:
1) garmin Nuvi 650 GPS: 15-20 seconds to lock
2) Sprint Mogul with A-GPS: 15-30 seconds to lock

My N95-3 just won't get a lock at all for anything less than 30 minutes. This is under open sky, slide open and on 20th floor (rooftop).

What do you guys suggest? Send to Nokia?

i dont know why its so long for you guys. my n95-3 and -4 both get locks within 15 seconds, everytime. garmin is ready to go almost instantly. same with google maps. maybe you need to use agps and have a data plan, and have the slider open.

i had same problem yesterday then i chose a access point for AGPS and got near instant lock,
using AGPS only takes a few KB for getting lock so i recomend ppl use it b'c it's quick and cost near nothing
as soon as it gets connected it stops using yor data connection unless GPS connection is lost,I think i used less than 5p of credit on AGPS last lock i got so charges are nothing

Can you provide me with the following, from your N95-3 (North America version)

1) What firmware version
2) In Tools -> GPS Data, do you select Integrated GPS only OR that AND AGPS (both selected)

FYI, I do have unlimited data plan and tried AGPS but no luck.

Defective N95?

Where do you set this up? Under "GPS data" program?

I use Nokia maps and I just got a lock in 13 seconds (and I'm indoors and it's cloudy). I usually get a lock in 10 seconds or less.
