Cannot Restore P990i backup to another P990i

I owned a Sony Ericsson P990i phone which had a problem sending text messages. I contacted my service provider O2 who advised it be returned and it was replaced with a P1i as they no longer distribute P990i. Unfortunately my backup cannot be restored to the P1i due to incompatibilities in the OS. Because I have many sensitive information, text messages, contacts and password stored on the old phone I had to purchase a new P990i again so that I can have my previous backup restored. I am running into the same problem again as the Sony PC Smart Suite (Backup/Restore Manager) still complains that the backup is not compatible and cannot be restored to the P990i. Please can anyone help me. Both phones are P990i so how come I cannot restore backup from one to the other?

For some reason the backup/restore software wont allow backup from one model and restore to another (I tried backing up a w950 and restoring to a w960).

However, as far as I am aware you should be able to backup from one p990 and restore to another unless the backup image gets tagged with some phone of specific phone identifier.

A work-around I found, which takes a few minutes but isnt too bad is that you can "send" all your contacts details from one phone straight to another via bluetooth. I was able to go to contacts and "select all" and then send to the other phone.
I believe text messages can be sent in the same way.
You can send "notes" from the notepad app but you have to open an individual note and then in the "more" menu you will get the option to "send".

This helps a little.
