Check out Joikusoft for more info about an app called Joikuspot, basically the Finnish private company have the app that could be pretty damn useful for some N95's 😉
Side issues are that it seems as the moment its only unencrypted networks that are available... anyway
Go see. 😉
wow this is fantastic, this is just the app I wanted, now I can use the web browser on my ipod touch using my internet connection on my n95 8gb
Hey hobsgrg - exactly what i was thinking!! Will give it a go, very exciting.
Yep it works!! Many thanks kontraband!! :icon14:
Browsing the internet on my ipod touch through my n95's 3g net connection. 3g ipod

Hey.... No worries... Just sharing the info 😉 Gotta be good for ipod touch users... :icon14:
A shame it only supports http and https protocols right now. I guess I'll stick with BT connection with my laptop until they allow more protocols to work (such as voip). Will give it a try though.
But the feature I would really appreciate is if they create choice for both incoming and outgoing internet connection. So for example I would get to choose whether my internet connection on the phone I want to use is 3g, voip or bluetooth. Same with the AP the phone creates - I would like to have a choice between wifi and bluetooth AP.

Saw a comment but want to make sure i got it right as i am planning to buy N95 8GB US Version. I had Samsung 8525 and the screen broke since its touch screen most of the screen funtions do not work. So with N95 i can still connect to net using BT on N95 and BT on laptop...pls let me know.

Yes that's correct. Use PC suite 'Connect to the Internet' for the BT connection.
The program above allows you to connect to the internet through wifi rather than BT.
no, you connect by using the 3G on the N95 and the wifi connection between your N95 and laptop.
Of note too is that you may need to setup as Ad Hoc and the first page you see to signify success is the joikusoft page.
woah, took me a while to post that... but as mcb00f says, you can connect via BT but this method is a wifi connection between phone and laptop/touch etc
it wont let me sheare my wireless connection for some reason? good app though liking it alot
nope its just not having it atall? will share a data connection no problem but not my Wlan. can i ask what badge that is on your picture?
nah, not Shalke, Sheff Weds 😉
FYI, it wont share your WLAN. Its a bit of a misnomer really saying 'turn it into a wifi hotspot' as basically although it uses wifi to connect, it only connects via 3.5G etc.
so it wont share a Wlan anyway?cant think of what id use it for but its still good i think?lol
No, it wont share WLAN.....you'd use it on the road, where there isnt a wlan spot but you need to connect, so rather than using say a cable or IR you use the wifi on the 2 devices.
But really yeah, its just an app that allows you to use your 3G data connection over WLAN.
for those that dont check the front page theres a review here
Why would you share a wlan connection over the phone - why not just connect to the wlan directly?
I assume you can connect more than 1 device to the JoikuSpot hotspot (though I haven't tried)?
Is that the problem?
As I understand it, this is for sharing a 3G connection via Wlan on the phone.
If you wanted to share a wlan connection, it would be better to connect directly to the wlan hotspot.
peter, you're not understanding.
You know how you can connect your laptop to your phone when you're in the middle of no-where and use the internet on your laptop through your phone as the modem... well that's what you are doing here, only instead of connected via Data cable, you're simply connecting to your phone via 802.11 and using your phone as the modem to connect to the web via 3g.
So say you were out in a forest no where near a hotspot and you wanted to check your email through your laptop (because you have a VPN set up for example to a mail server or what not) or because you have a specific application that needs an internet connection, then you would simply browse for an 802.11 network (which would be your phone) and connect to it. Your phone however would be forwarding that connection through 3g or whatever.
so instead of the old:
internet requesting device > data cable > phone > wireless data network provider (phone service provider packet data network).
you can now connect this way:
internet requesting device > 802.11> phone> wireless data network provider.
This way allows for more devices to utilize the phone's modem capabilities because more devices are 802.11 enabled. It also allows for more ways to connect to the internet for devices, especially if a wireless hot spot is not available.
Understand?
yup... waxup's said it.
It not about getting a wifi connection to the net. Its about getting 'a' connection to the net. So when there is no wifi hotspot for you, but there is a 3G signal etc you can use the 802.11 method of connection between the 2 devices which allows the phone to become the modem for the data connection to your laptop (for example). Your external device has net access at 3G speed.
Its not replacing connection byi WIFI. Its giving the availability of a connection option when there IS no wifi 😉
