Stefan's got the scoop on this one: the Nokia N82 is being released in black - over in the USA, at least. If the shiny silver had been putting you off, then here's an option if you're in the States.

...it's going back! This arrived yesterday and it's going back today. I'm surprised at Nokia. It's the most toy-like phone I've ever handled. It's plasticy and un-reassuringly light, the keypad is virtually unusable. OK - I have hands bigger than the average person, but even so - it's not possible to use it without only using finger-nails to press the keys. Dreadful. Thank goodness for the E90 or I might just be disillusioned at the moment 😊
Lessons learned: go to a shop and handle phones first; take more notice of Steve's reviews!

You should read the article first, it's not released. It will be released the 12 February.
That's a strange comment, Unregistered. Who are you talking to? And what are you meaning?
On the face of it, your contribution suggests that you've misunderstood something in the first two posts of this thread.

"the keypad is virtually unusable"
I agree it's not brilliant. And don't get me started about the memory card slot, you need even smaller fingers / decent nails for that!
I've been watching Top Gear quite a bit and they sometimes have cars on that have been turbo-charged or modified in some way from the originals (by some specialist car modding company). I'm wondering if there exist any companies that do the same for mobile phones. i.e. give them new keypads, or even take the hardware from one phone and put it inside the case of another. That would be so cool to have N82 hardware inside the shell of another device (one with a better keypad, obviously)!
1st Symbian phone for me.
1. I have fat fingers and the buttons take some getting used to, but I sometimes get a good turn of speed. So I think I will get used to it.(Why don't Symbians have word suggestion as a feature of T9 as S4 does.)
2. The mem. card cover is the devils own invention. I can't get it loose enough to remove the card. Have I an extra short hinge or are they all like that?
Pleasantly surprised by the speed of the OS and camera functions.
The font face is a bit feint/thread-like, so good eye-sight or😮
Isn't everything a compromise? Wanted candy-bar for my rugged 😎 lifestyle, so sliders were out, wanted better camera than E51.
Also wanted Black but have waited long enough!
I don't know what you guys are moaning about, honestly. Yes, sure, the N82 is not the prettiest phone ever, whether black or silver, but everything works well and it's a well built phone.
I first thought the keypad was not that great, but I actually think it works really well, even if you have big fingers. The memory card cover opens easily for me, unless you are one of these ugly finger nail biters, it's no problem at all. The right softkey is probably the hardest to press because of the multimedia key, but in most cases you can just use the red hang up key (the right softkey is mostly used as a cancel or exit button).
So - back to the original subject: does it look better in black? I actually don't think it makes a big difference on the front, but the back is definitely nicer. I don't think the sandy colour was a very good choice.
Has anyone heard about the white version? One of the product codes I found somewhere said 'Swisscom White'.
