Hi all, keep getting a little icon on the right hand side under the battery indicator, it's like a landline handset picture with a circle behind it, any idea what this indicates? Everytime it appears it seems to drain my battery really quickly?
Icon showing on Phone ??
It sounds like your Internet SIP Call line...
If you dont use it... delete the settings, if you do... dont let it auto start.
Truphone? Sipgate? Gizmo? Something like that??
I did have Truphone but I removed it, can't find any mention of it on the phone now but it obviously has left some trace?
have a look in TOOLS>SETTINGS>CONNECTION>SIP SETTINGS and see if anything is in there...
Not used Truphone for ages as I use Sipgate so not sure about the removal process. Did you remove with 'c' or from within the apps manager?
im sure, i think that when you remove truphone the settings are still there in the internet tell app on your phone. i have noticed that aswelll
I now think it might be Devicescape, I remember installing it last year and then removing it, had an email today about the new version so installed it again and the same icon appears, has anyone used this software, is it worth keeping and do you have battery draining issues with it?
if your asking if its worth keeping then no... its not.
You'd surely know yourself if it was worth it... not thru someone here?? 😉
I'd like to think so but new to all this really, just about to go to the states and thought it might just connect me to free hotspots, presumably it's just a case of a WLAN scan anyway?
for connecting to hotspots yeah, just scan for it an connect and follow the instructions if there are any.
Depending on if you want to pay to use them too... theres things like boingo too which I found ok East Coast. It seems Devicescape is constanly looking to connect you, though I would assume theres a stop option.
So long as you dont start the app though things shouldnt drain your battery. In case you didnt know you can see what is/isnt running by holding the menu button down for a few seconds. 😊
Oh, and if you need to connect, but there arent any hotspots, someone (me) just wrote a very nice review on joikusoft which allows you to use your N95 as a wifi access point (though the connection is only 3G) 😉
Thanks for all this, very much appreciated.
thats what these forums for 😉

As it happens, I've been using Devicescape for a little while now and can honestly say it's brill. Just upgraded to the latest, so can't comment on how much of an improvement it is, but reading the blurb, it suggests it might be a big one. For logging into hotspots, device scape just makes the process so much easier. Now I just pick Devicescape from my list of available APs and it does all the legwork. No filling in user name and password. All that's done for me. (If anyone has tried to remember a BT Openzone username and password combo, you'll appreciate this after just one connection!!) A good free app.
so can you stop the devicescape searching? And start as you please??
