I am clutching at straws here, but I must ask.....
Is there a known problem with the N95 accessing a secured university wireless lan? (eduroam)
Reason I ask is that I know someone who has the exact same phone although his is the 8gb version and using the exact same configuration, he can connect to eduroam and I cannot. (Same university)
This is really baffling me!

Are you using an N95-1 v20? If so, I think there is a known issue with secure wireless connections on that. I had the same problem when I upgraded and tried to connect to the one at home. I could connect by putting in the WEP key and then if I wanted to connect again it'd keep asking for the key.
Try going to Access points under Settings and setting up the connection there manually. Hopefully it should then connect with no problems. Hope this helps.
I am on the very latest firmware. (V20)
I have manually configured the settings exactly the same as the other N95 (8gb firmware V15) and he connects I don't!
I get eap-peap encryptions do not match or something very similar. :con?

The wireless connection at the library at my (old) Uni required a certificate to be installed before it could connect. However this only applied to PCs and Macs. I wonder if your uni supply a cert that works on a phone as well.
I have selected the certificate as per the instructions given by a friendly and helpful person in computing department.
As I have said, two people using same phones and same settings and only one of us can connect.
My colleague has an 8gb N95 with obviously different firmware (V15)
I am using V20.
I wonder if it is possible to downgrade the firmware to see if that cures it?

has your friend contacted the IT dept. so they could add his phones mac address to their ACL's (access control lists)? Some places restrict access this way.
No. All that happened was a kind person in IT borrowed a N95 and spent some time working out (trial and error) how to get it to connect.
She then knocked up a set of instructions and emailed them to both of us. We have both followed them to the letter and he connects, I cannot! :con?
that sucks. well as someone said earlier, there is a known issue after upgrading firmware, maybe try reinstalling v20 and see what happens?
Yes, I think that is my only hope, barring a newer firmware being released.
I have just discovered that firmware cannot be downgraded. :frown:
I will have to reinstall tomorrow as work is calling me. 😮
Hi
I want to calarify something with you!
When connecting to this wifi network are you supposed to go through secure sign in process, the first time you try to browse the internet?
Coz I have such a problem too .. with all firmware since v10
At my company we have WiFi network and they provided me with username and password .. so what happens is this:
I open browser and type google.com ... instead of opening google it redirects me to a https web page to sign in, and if I log correctly I can browse as long as I want .... A colleague of mine has N80 .. he solve this issue by supplying certificates for thos secure connection .. Me and my N95 can not log no matter I asupply these certificates or not
Yes and no.
I manually enter the username and password to avoid being asked to sign in, but of course I never get connected.
At home, I can connect to my wirless lan easily.
I wonder when a new firmware will be made available?
Is there a contact address to enquire about future firmware upgrades that fix specific bugs?

I had a problem connecting to our office WLAN on the upgraded firmware on a standard N95.
I made the WLAN visible and was able to locate it using the WLAN search. I tried to create an access point and entered the network key when asked. However, it would never connect and kept failing.
In the end, by going into the access point profile created by the wizard, I changed the ad-hoc/infrastructure setting and all was well. For some reason, the wizard didn't automatically set this correctly.
Another thing...
Whilst away on holiday recently, our hotel had free WiFi in guest rooms. However, in order to connect, it was necessary to access via the browser first, agreeing to the T&Cs and then presumably this stored your phone's MAC address on their systems. Throughout that same day, it was possible to access the net on the same device without going through the sign up procedure again. But when I then tried to use the laptop, I had to go back to scratch and then trying my N95 again was the same. ie I couldn't simply check my email without going through the browser.

Just had an email from Nokia regarding my query about a known bug in the latest firmware which may be stopping me connecting to my university computer network (eduroam).
They deny any bug in the firmware and have advised me to take the phone in for checking under warranty.
