LG announce VGA/GPS S60 candy-bar

Possibly trying to stay away from Nokia's own announcements, LG Electronics has announced its new 'LG-KT610', described as a "GPS-enabled,
stylish candy bar mobile phone with a unique 2.4 VGA flip screen
holding a PC-like Qwerty keypad". More details below, I'm waiting on Rafe for some hands-on photos!

Read on in the full article.

VGA resolution on a tiny 2.4" screen??? Unless you have super human eyes I don't see this being practical at all.

Unregistered, I noticed the VGA too. That must be the first S60 with VGA?

I agree it would be quite difficult to read websites on a phone screen, but it may help with making things look a lot smoother. The current QVGA standard can still look quite blocky sometimes.

Also an important-but-little-discussed thing to bear in mind: if S60 phones start having TV Out sockets as standard and also VGA as standard, they will make much better desktop computers than the current QVGA models with TV Out. I know it sounds crazy, but in developing countries where phones outsell PCs by quite a wide margin this could become revolutionary.

That's a pretty rough comment Steve! The LG KS10 may not be widely available in UK shops but a couple of minutes with Google shows that Twenga.co.uk are selling it at around 154 [1], it is shipping to places such as Italy[2] and the UAE [3], several web shops have it in the USA [4] and your own Asri al-Baker saw it at CommunicAsia 2007 [5].

😊

Oh no, this is that terrible phone design we all thought was fake!

Whose bright idea was it to put a small screen inside a wide clamshell?

I really don't think this is VGA, looking at the internal screen, you can see that there are 4 icons by 3 icons which is a characteristic of QVGA
