Nokia N78 - The New Candybar Nseries Device

While the N96 takes the plaudits, Nokia's N78 is probably
going to be the bigger seller. With all the high spec features of the Nseries
range (including assisted GPS; Carl Zeiss 3.2 megapixel lens with LED flash;
and a 2GB ‘pre-fitted' memory card), but in a more traditional candy bar shape.

This is a redesigned N73, plus some great features I miss the most in N73, like Wi-Fi. Hopefully it will have good amount of RAM too. BTW, does it feature FP2?

BTW, does it feature FP2?

Looks like it, as it features the "Open" label above the NaviKey - the third "center softkey" label is the tell-tale sign of the FP2 UI.

Thanks mgroeber. It seems a nice device. Only concern for me is the keypad (alpha-numeric part) and the Send, End, Menu, C, all seem to be in the same plane. Will there be accidental key-presses? For example, someone with large finger may press the Menu key instead of 7. Another question: Does it have a camera lens cover? It is really IMPORTANT in the dusty tropics.

i love it his smartphone is based on the Symbian S60 3rd Edition operation system, with Feature Pack 2, and sports a DVB-H digital TV receiver and innovative kickstand for watching video on the handset’s beautiful 2.8″ QVGA display

can anyone tell me whether Nokia will release the e61 successor E71 at the MWC?

again, nice to see the swirly key still there.

gotta wonder if those keys are any good.

also, FM transmitter? I thought other companies had big trouble getting them licensed in the UK (the plug-in accessories for mp3 players). Is this not an issue any more?

Max.

Man, what about the E71 leak we saw in January? I thought that was going to be released at the MWC!

I will only have to say, the new N96 is f*** ugly! I dont care what's in it! I'd never buy it simply because it looks like a huge brick piece of sh**!

I like the N78 😊 Good size, battery time and nice features. The only negative thing seem to be the keypad, but I can probably get used to it. There are two things I wonder, though.

1) Why did they ship the hungry AC-5 charger with it, instead of the efficient AC-8?

2) Is it possible to charge the phone by using the USB port?

I don't think Nokia has any plan to implement USB charging very soon. What bothers me the most about this device is the absence of a lens cover. It surely is going to collect some dust and pictures will come out crappy. In addition to that, due to contact with dust and repeated wiping, the lens will eventually get scratched. Why can't these manufacturers meet such basic demands of the user?

Low power FM transmitters were legalised in the UK some time ago. Nothing was really made of it since those who wanted them just used them anyway - they were widely available before they were legalised.

Hi, all,

Do we know something about the weight of the N78? That is, does it belong to the 110-120 g range? Also, I'd be glad to know where its speakers are located. Sorry to hear that it wouldn't offer a camera cover -- even the N73 has it!

Best,
Amir

What size headphone socket?

FM transmitter is muchmore useful than mobile tv.

Shame they didn't give this one a 5mp camera - i prefer it over the N96.

overall i think nokia could have released a great phone but haven't.

I would like to know how this phone fares against a Nokia n82.
I am looking for a new phone and am wondering if the Fm transmitter runs smoothly enough to let fact, that is has a much worse camera than the n82, slide. Also i would like to find out if the new operating system is that great as compared to the one of the n82.
I want a phone with a suberb camera and a great quality output from the extensive audio library. Wifi is an added bonus but hey the perfect phone doesnt exist yet. SO is this phone worth my money or should i buy an n82?
THX A MILLION for you opinion
