Which phone should i buy to replace my N73?

i have just been offered an upgrade by orange. the phones that were suggested were 6500 classic or slide and the k850i.
n95 would be 50 (of course i intend to bargain with them with my yearly threat of leaving).

i would like to stick with nokia as i have always had their phones and am used to them. however, it is not completely essential.

my main requirement is that i would like the camera to be as good if not better.
this puts the 6500 classic out of the picture.
the 6500 slide seems ok but has barely any internal memory and does not seem like much of a step up over the n73.

the perfect phone for me would be the 6220 classic but that is not out for several months.

any ideas?

I've got real doubts that even the current crop of 5mp cameraphones actually take better quality images than either the N73 or K800.

Big problem is that cramming more pixels into a similarly small sensor increases noise on the image, more post processing is required to reduce the impact of the noise, thereby reducing the potential improvement of the image.

I've gone a totally different route - I'm keeping the N73 and K800 for their cameras, and have got a HTC Touch Dual for phone/organiser functionality.

I hate to say it, but the Windows Mobile calendar and organiser is leagues ahead of that in S60. I never liked the calendar in S60 - it was pretty poor at best, very basic in its functionality.

if the new 5mp cameras are not drastically better then the idea of new phone with a 3.2mp appeals.
if the phone were smaller, lighter and faster than the n73 then that might sell it to me.

I've seen enough pictures from the various 5mp phone cams to make me believe the "improvement" is minimal - viewed on screen, or printed at 6x4, its as much about colour balance as anything.

And thats one area the N73 doesn't do too good :frown:

One catch though - you're on Orange? They have a terrible selection of S60 phones, due to some "differences" with Nokia over both of them offering on-line music stores. So no N95 8gig, N82, N81 on Orange, at least for a little while.

The cam on the N82 is basically the same as that on the N95, but the flash actually seems to be quite good (unlike that on every other phone on the market).

From the pics I've seen, the xenon flash is the only built in flash on a phone thats actually any good. The unit on the SE K800/810/850 is pretty pathetic.

thanks for the advice.

the n82 seems like the best choice at the moment (if i decide not to wait)
bit worried about the buttons though, they look very uncomfortable

a friend recommended the viewty but i not sure i like the idea of touchscreen phone.
the 120fps video sounds excellent fun though 😊

Then wait for it. You don't have to get a new phone now, do you?

In any case, the 6220 Classic is what I'm waiting for.
