Very much doubt they'd loan you a phone, there is no benefit to them as you need your phone fixed so you aren't likely to take your business elsewhere. I bet they'd try to sell you a cheap PAYG actually.
Downgrading Firmware?
I have checked my complete documentation that came with N95 (both T-mobile and Nokia) and I can find no reference of changing the product code invalidating the warranty!
If it does then it could have been inserted as T&Cs when the ability to change the codes became common practise in order to debrand.
I would argue that my phone is covered irrespective of product code, but, I can see that later issues of the phone may not be covered.
Don't forget that you have two warranties one with your network provider (if on contract) and one with Nokia as the manufacturer. If your problem is harware related then I fail to see how a different product code is going to invalidate anything. You may have to push using the sale of goods (or is it supply of goods now?) act, but, I think you are on solid ground.
If you are in doubt as to how the service center will react givethem a call and ask!
If they change the t&cs though you can end the contract then and there, that is standard contract law. Then get yourself a new contract and a new phone. Woop.
After doing a reinstall of the firmware and using the same settings I was using, I finally managed to logon to my university wlan.
I have no idea why it would not work before reinstalling.
