Using GPS/Sat nav at the same time as other apps.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who likes to use the N95 as their in car sat nav at the same time as using it for MP3 playback. Hooked up with an FM transmitter it works nicely and you get your directions through the speakers cutting in over the music as required.

Up until a few weeks ago I was still on branded vodafone firmware and with nokia maps. I'd been avoiding debranding because I didn't want to lose the tracking feature but I got sick of the memory problems and the phone really struggled to even run Music player and Maps together without 1 just crashing out.

So I debranded and upgraded and wow what difference to the memory, and the speed of a gps lock fell from minutes to seconds. All good news you would think, but there seems to be one nasty side affect. Running sat nav by itself works just fine, nokia maps and route 66 do a good job, but if I try and run Music Player at the same time as either one it has a very nasty effect on the sat nav. It almost instantly starts to struggle to even hold a gps lock, and when it does, the directions and position on the map are all about 10-20 seconds behind where I actually am.

I've tested it enough to be sure it's the cause. It might not be the music player specifically and could just be contention with memory for any application I guess. With the old firmware it could run both without this particular issue, I just didn't dare touch anything knowing one would crash if so much as a text message arrived !

So has anyone else experienced the same problem, any theories on why, or possible solutions ?

No, I happily run music player alongside Nokia Maps. Are your music files a sensible, small size?

I quite happily run both Nokia Maps, Google Maps and Tom Tom along side the music player app. Both on pre and post v20 update.

Coupled with a Bluetooth Stereo system and you can control the music player app from the stereo.

Same here, just writing this using opera mini, with music playing, profimail in the background and nokia maps running and showing position accurately.

Hmm, so it's just me it doesn't like ! Music files are a sensible size (4-6Mb max). I'll do some more testing. Thanks for the responses.
