N95 Suddenly Dying after almost one year

Hi everyone

I have just been sat on my PC for about an hour, then I shutdown to get some sleep. I tried to set the alarm on my N95, and the screen went blank.

I assumed it had crashed, but it shortly came back. Then, every 3rd or 4th keypress I made either made the screen go blank (still backlit) or kinda invert its colours and shift slightly to the right.

Rebooted, no change. Removed battery 10 mins, no change. Tried with no memory card, no change.

I got it on the 1st March last year, which makes it 15 days short of a year old.

Other than this, I've never had a real problem with it.

For reference, it's v20 (upgraded the first day it was available so don't think it's a firmware bug)
8gig sandisk card (Again, problem persists with card removed)
Fitted a replacement TFT in October (problem does not happen during boot so most likely not the screen)

Presently I am re-flashing v20. God I hope it works because money is tight this month...

Andy

UPDATE:

Re-flash didn't work.

I really don't know what to do now.

Yeah, looks like I might have to

I suspect it could be the LCD now, so im replacing the original one

Yeah, I was right, it was the LCD

phew!

All is ok everyone, false alarm

YAY! Good effort fazycruck!

I know now who to go to if mine knackers up. 😊

Hehe, i guess so...

I'm pretty upset now though, as the firmware re-flash has left me with about 5 hours of re-installs, music syncing, and re-training the voice recog software, bah.

- especially if crap like this happens .. a full backup / restore << 5 hours!

- same version should be sweet .. if it gives you problems just be picky on restore - leave out settings / or programs or whatever you suspect.

- good to hear you got it sussed though 😊

Mine started acting similarly. Sent it back to repair just today. Only had it since Aug. I'm DYING w/o it!!!!

just got mine back from ths NSC. they replaced my lcd but its brighter than it was before and the sensor is set at same sensitivity. any help?

This is uncanny. I just had the exact same symptoms as FaZyCrUcK (and spice3d, by the looks of it) start happening on my N95 about two days ago, and last night the display failed completely. I went back to the network operator's shop where I bought it eight months ago, and the phone is going away for repair - back within 28 days, apparently, but hopefully much sooner than that!

Interesting that the same problem seems to have started occurring for people around the same time. I suppose the N95 is a slider phone, and therefore may be prone to such "moving parts" failures (I owned two Psions a few years back, and probably should've seen this coming), but you'd really think they should have identified the slider as a weak spot and worked out how to minimise wear and tear.

Oh well - it's back to my ancient Motorola for a while 😞

If my N95 knackers up I'd have to make do with my N70 for a while. One of the reasons why I upgraded was because the N70 was soooooo slow. However after figuring out how to change the product code and update the firmware, I did the same on my N70 and now it runs quite nicely (went up from v3.X.X to v5.X.X so it was quite a jump!).

Prolly wouldn't be too bad to use for a short while in those circumstances.

Yeah, my N70 got it's hopes up that I'd take it out of my drawer hehe.

Just to make it clear, it wasn't the original screen that died, or anything to do with moving parts.

My eBay bought 'genuine replacement LCD' failed

It looks identical to the original in every way but I think if it only lasted 3 months, it must be a fake.

my original is scratched but still useable, so I just re installed it.

After doing the funny inverted colour thing, it eventually just died

So there's a Top Gear Top Tip for you kids....

Don't buy cheap N95 screens on ebay cos they'll be rubbish
