When the battery should be charged?

I am using Nokia N95. I have read and heard that if someone charges a rechargeable battery before it is discharged completely, then it damages the battery capacity, and the battery does not last long. Whenever I see battery low indication, I open a lot of applications, videos or music, so that N95 may shut down on its own, and then I charge the battery. I feel a lot of trouble doing all that procedure but am doing so just to avoid damage to the battery.
Please tell me whether all this procedure is necessary for the battery, or can I charge it without discharging it completely.

No need. Modern Li-Ion batteries like in your N95 do not suffer from the 'memory' effect of older Ni-Cad ones. You can happily charge it whenever you are in range of a charger and it will be fine. I usually charge mine overnight which means it's usually between 1/4 and 1/2 empty when plugging in.

Yeah, mine sits on my desk with the charger in a lot of the time, and kid of does the reverse of 3shirts... i.e. charges inthe day, sits all night... it holds power fine when its not in charge and lasts 24-60hrs.
