Has anyone ever managed to get this to work. I have tried scanning bar codes with it. Maybe I`m doing something wrong. The var code has to be between the 2 red lines on the screen but not sure if this is long ways on or end to end and even so all that happens is the dispaly just focuses now and again and eventually puts the scanner into standby mode.
Am I doing something wrong. What can be scanned with it and what results should I expect
yeah it works... its for 2D barcodes tho... from memory.
Just the boxes with the black shaping in it.. like...

If you search here there are loads of threads about this. They are 2D barcodes or, more correctly, QR codes. It's not used much in western world but it's very common in Japan and lots of business types have a barcode on their business card which holds all their contact details so people can scan them straight into their device.
If you go here you can mess about with creating your own (though the N95 will only read small ones). I use it a lot to put long web addresses and things like that into my phone without typing it all.

Oh, and youve just gained an extra point for you choice in Tea! Reet good!

but hey.... its all about choice.
I dont' know why this amazes me so much, but it just does.

they are only just starting in use over here really... started to see them popping up in shops windows etc etc.
Maybe you could start guerilla promotion over there! 😉

Im guessing its using the max amount of characters cause its BUSY!
Yeah the message was too long. I've created a new one though and should work.

yup... although I thought canadian roll was something you ate! 😉
The only time I've seen a QR code used here in the UK (properly) was when I had a t-shirt delivered to me. It had the tracking number in small print on the front with my address, as well as the QR code above it. I scanned it and it was the same as the tracking number.
I have one on my site as well
Thanks to everyone for their repsonses on this. I will check out the sites you mention. Didnt know there was more than one type of bar code. The only type I know are the long ones with numbers on them. I`m in Barrow In Furness North West UK. Dont think I have ever seen a 2D barcode. Out of interest, is there any software that will decode the 3d barcode

it does scan the barcodes what you get on products with numbers
but they are hard to find the data ,might be better now though since the update b/c my scanner never used to make a box around the code and scan inside like the v15 software does
i scanned a tin beans, you just get a few numbers or link for the helpline

Have a look at the link below and maybe get involved! It's quite a good idea actually, basically sticking a QR code on a sign or wall or poster etc with a link to info about the area or object. Examples include sticking a link to a wikipedia article about an animal to the little plaque next to it in the zoo or linking to an overhead photo of a park you are in on the sign.

Yep. went to my local zoo and tried this. All the Zerbas I scanned gave me a link to this - Zebras. All the Tigers gave me this link - Tigers. But those jokers the Cheetahs have obviously sold out cos they gave me this link - Cheetahs. LOL
I noticed today when I was waiting for the bus that there's one of those square codes on my bus shelter. It's on a sticker stuck to the frame of the shelter. Might be to identify the piece used to make it. I couldn't scan it though because there was someone else there too, and I didn't want to look like a pillock.
I would have scanned it anyways. Especially if the person beside you had an Iphone, they'd be like "HEY, I can't do that with my Iphone!" and then you can say "but the Iphone comes with things you actually use like 'I-life' and 'I-photo' and the whole 'I-life' package"
Sorry that commercial gets to me everytime. I DON'T use anything apple so it doesn't come with stuff I'll actually use.
i don't use anything apple either, unless it's in a pie.....
i had one of the older codes on my tesco clubcard thing, crashed my phone/.

You've gotta just wonder about some people!
Great little app 😊

Hmm, my phone wouldn't scan that last one.
I think I made it too complicated - it was just text as below. Guess there are limitations 🙄
"The questions below about Australia are from potential visitors. They were
posted on an Australian Tourism Website and the answers are the actual
responses by the website officials, who obviously have a sense of
humour
Q: Can I wear high heels in Australia? ( UK)
A: You are a British politician, right?"
HAHA! I've just had an idea for a joke!
How about making one of those codes and sending it as an MMS to someone else's N95, saying "Hey mate, scan this with your phone!"
😃

Might backfire when they send it to a bluetooth printer or their PC and then scan it.
