P1i wifi 802.11b simple question plz help :(

P1i has wifi 802.11b, is this connection able to connect to routers of hotspots with 802.11g because most places uses 802.11b for commercial purposes and always cost.

The sort answer is - probably. 11g uses a different modulation scheme to 11b BUT IEEE specs say that there should be complete interoperability between the two standards. An explanation is given here http://www.commsdesign.com/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=EVAFHCACAC3E2QSNDLPSKH0CJUNN2JVN?articleID=16504740

Some routers I see are 11b only and work with 11g macince (but slowly) other don't. The reverse is also true.

My guess, and I see a lot of low-end routers day to day, is that newer routers will better support both standards than older routers that in the case of 11b only types don't know anything about 11g and older 11g routers that in the rush to get them to market, simply ignored 11b backwards compatibility.

I hope that this at least clarifies this point because I sure don't have a definitive answer. Pete

Forgot to say. Obviously an 11b client will only ever connect at 11b rates (11Mbps) even if it gets to connect to an 11g (up to 54Mbos) host.

As far as I know, the G standard includes support for B devices although this could be configured to disallow B devices from connecting. The main reason for this draconian measure is that in early Access Points when a single b device meant that the entire wireless network dropped to 11mbps.

A lot of work has gone into enabling b and g devices to use the same channel and AP at the same time with each device getting maximum throughput (to a point)...

So, if the person who configured your AP hasn't updated the firmware or has mis-configured a new device based on old information you are out-of-luck I am afraid.
