Voicemode application

Hey guys. I just purchased the Voicemode application and I am now debating on whether or not I want to use it. During the install I got to read the Privacy crap and apparently everytime I use it the application sends an MMS message containing the audio that I had spoke to the application makers. I don't have an unlimited MMS or data plan through my provider and I don't think they offer one (Rogers Wireless Canada). I don't want to use this application now because I'm going to be charged big time for using it.

If anyone maybe wants to trade apps as I've paid $12 CAD for this thing and I highly doubt I'll use it. I've installed it but have not yet used it nor entered the CD key so it's good to go for someone else.

That's why I don't want to use it. They say they do this because voice recognition software always needs to be updated because everyone speaks differently, blah blah..... I guess the message you are sending goes to your recipient but the application also sends one off to their developers that includes the audio from you speaking into the phone.. who knows.

If you just add an extra MMS service called 'fake', identical to your original MMS service, but change the website to blank... it doesnt manage to send the data anywhere, thats what I've been doing

Andy

OH! that could be promising. Do I do this through the application? I haven't looked at it yet because I don't want any data charges!

A walk through would be much appreciated.

No, you can set this up without VM installed just go into Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points

Then you'll see your MMS point (mine says O2 MMs)

highlight it, then hit the left soft key (Options) and select 'Duplicate Access Point'

Then it duplicates it and takes into the 'access point properties screen'

Here, change the connection name to 'fake' or anything, and then change the access point name to 'fake', then change the homepage to 'fake'

Then, install and try voicemode, you'll notice after a while that it tries to send an MMS but it just stays in my 'outbox' as send failed, where I just delete it.

I would advise you check your balance before using the app once, just to be certain that when youve finished, it hasn't managed to use any MMS units, which I suppose could be a possibility, but it's worked fine for me personally

Hope that helps!
Let me know how you got on

Andy

I've also changed the data bearer to wireless lan instead of packa data. i wonder if that makes adifference so that way i can have them sent out when im on a wlan.

Hmm, mine was just set to packet data

If i remember rightly, it would display the 'network usage' icon (under the signal bar) for a second, and under that would be a small 'E' which i presume meant Error. Im not sure if setting it as WLAN would do you any good, as I think it might automatically look for packet data connections by default

You could be right though 😊

Andy

yeah, no other icons came on or anything when i sent a message, and nothing in my outbox. I changed the "fake" back to packet data just incase and set it as the default profile under my MMS message settings. we'll see what happens when i get my next bill in, should be soon.

Wow !! - a good reason to read those awful agreements !!!

See extract at: http://www.voicesignal.com/support/voicemode/privacy.html

Surely this can't be legal !!! even if idiots like me have 'agreed'

Ignoring the potential costs, why would anyone agree to sending this software company copies of your messages/emails in text & audio ?? ...and they will notify the authoritiies if they read/hear anything ilegal.

I've only used the software for a few emails, but these were work emails, and I doubt my employer will appreciate company info passing out the country for dubious purposes.

Questions:

- does the software really do this ? I've not been aware of any MMS messages being sent.

- are all send messages (SMS, MMS) kept in the 'sent' folder ?

- if so, can someone confirm the recipient and the actual content. I'd been keen to see/receive a copy.

- as detailed above, I have now added a 'fake' MMS connection and this is listed along with loads of other connections - including the original carrier's MMS. How/where are these connections chosen ?

- is there a UK version yet for the N95(8GB) ?

Off to send a MMS and see what happens now.

I've got my bill in and I am happy to announce that I was not charged for any data connections.

My suggestions are to create a "fake" access point as described in the earlier posts of this thread.

As long as you create your "fake" access point, the only recipient is the person you are sending the message to and this can be confirmed if you get the GPRS data connection with an "E" flashing on the standby screen after you send a text message. This means that the message was not sent to the "voicemode" servers and you have to go into your messages "outbox" and delete it as it won't ever get sent. Your message to your intended person will be sent though.

Doughball, you should also read the WHOLE thread discussion before posting as well, many of your questions where answered already.

Apologies if I'm missing something here, but my questions on VoiceMode remain:

- does this software "really" do this ? I've not been aware of any MMS messages being sent.
(I've never seen or been aware of any outoing MMS messages )

- are all sent messages (SMS, MMS) kept in the 'sent' folder ?
(they should, but again I've never seen any)

- if so, can someone confirm the recipient add the actual content. I'd been keen to see/receive a copy.
(I'd like to know their number so I can send them a MMS sample)

- as detailed above (in previous post), I have now added a 'fake' MMS connection and this is listed along with loads of other connections - including the original carrier's MMS. How/where are these connections chosen ?
(although I have a dummy MMS connection, I can still send MMS)

- is there a UK version yet for the N95(8GB) ?
(I've emailed the company weeks ago, but no reply)
